Dining Hall

[Amdi hasn't spent a ton of time in the dining hall this past week. It's one of the areas of the castle that's least home-like to him, with its too-high table and strange narrow benches and unfamiliar foods. He usually just ducks in to nosh on whatever the Queen has decided to provide from his home planet today, most often his favorite autumn soup. So if you were wondering what that meat-and-barley(??) savory-yet-vaguely-alien smelling stew that comes in those bowls with the weird-shaped padded handles was, well, now you know.]

[He is indeed eating some of that today, but also, a few of his members are standing on the benches and sniffing around at the more typical human foods on offer. He tried tea with Oriko on Monday and didn't really like it, and he's been a little concerned about the possibility of getting sick in a place where he is literally the only person of his species, but by Friday his curiosity is overcoming his better judgement. Got any food recommendations for him?]

Library

[One place he definitely HAS been spending a lot of time is the library. At first he was a bit disappointed that there were no books about math, but then Manaka told him all about King Arthur and he's been pulling books wildly off the shelves ever since. Human culture is almost completely unknown to him and he is totally fascinated by all of it.]

[He's not an especially fast reader (he was assembled and educated specifically for mathematical aptitude, after all) but he's already got an impressive pile of lovingly dog-eared (ha) books in his little corner of the library, including but not limited to The Canterbury Tales, a large pile of assorted Babysitter's Clubs, Bill Bryson's A Walk In The Woods, the entire pre-2000 run of The Magic School Bus, and the biographies of both Isaac Newton and Srinivasa Ramanujan. His yet-to-read pile includes volumes from several more children-to-YA level series and a large number of books that seem to have been picked out completely at random.]

[Want to compliment and/or roast him on his reading choices? See anything in his fresh pile you'd like to steer him away from? One interesting note about Amdi while reading: unlike most everything else he does, he only ever has one member actually doing the reading, while the rest of him mostly lay down contentedly on their bellies with their eyes half-lidded. ]
