When Luz and Thomasin were murdered, the scenes were chaotic, largely because Reika and Edward wanted to get caught... although everything being so hard to parse m- made that more difficult.
Here, though... the killer was efficient. It may not seem like it, but that's my hunch. The paint, where Valmont was dragged... it feels like no extra effort was expended, i- if that makes sense? Everything that they did had a specific purpose in mind.
