what's the matter with thee, thomasin? ([personal profile] curdle) wrote in [community profile] castle_whims 2022-08-15 07:46 pm (UTC)

[ Thomasin, of course, wakes at the same time as everyone else — she is no grand outlier, just a scared child like the rest of them. Nonetheless, it's an awfully long time before she emerges from Room #14, clutching the handbook to her chest! Her face is freshly washed, and her long blonde hair seems to have been recently pinned up judging by its scrupulous neatness, though she's still wearing the uniform and looks incredibly uncomfortable in it. Her eyes are both wide and wide-spaced, right about now, her steps unsteady, and whenever someone else exiting their rooms passes her, whether they're a normal-looking bog standard human or a goddamn duck, that wide gaze fixes directly on them.

It is rude to stare, she knows, but she cannot help it. She has never seen anything like this before. In her mind, the same useless litany is repeating over and over again, because it's the only thing she can think of to ground herself, and that means she barely even notices when the totally unrelated words fall out of her mouth: ]

What is this?

[ Anyway!! After that, she wanders all around the school, trying in vain to understand why she is here and who sent her. She comes up to the fence at the end of the playground and wraps her fingers around the wire, staring out at the cliff beyond. She goes through, like, everything at the school store, and may or may not cry out in surprise as she accidentally shines a flashlight in her own face! And, while she initially looks at the bland mush the kitchen Little Brother serves up with trepidation (and the apple with, weirdly enough, a flash of actual anger?), once she digs in, she eats ravenously, as though she hasn't had a proper meal in weeks. ]
