WEEK FOUR

Monsters come in all shapes and sizes, it would seem.

The students of Ira Academy will find themselves entering the new week with their hunger sated, but it's likely the grisly scene of Friday's murder and the demonstration of the execution make the food hit much heavier. The risk of death is still very real, and astute watchers might also find it haunting to think about what sort of twisted game could have forced Yuta to lose control of his own actions. Or perhaps, for the fifth week in a row, people are just finding themselves angrier at their circumstances and their captor than ever.

After her release from the washing machine last week, Nanami Kiryuu can be found more often shadowing the other students around, hanging out in the periphery and putting in appearances even if she doesn't have information to share or announcements to pass on to the rest of the group - as long as no one makes an attempt to shoo her away.

The stairs open up to another newly remodeled floor, offering new locations that may prompt more answers to your dilemma--or more questions. There's no way to know which it will be. Thankfully, there's always a new mind-numbing relaxation activity to take in.

Welcome to Week 4! New locations are now open, a couple of old ones have been tweaked, and characters have started the next week of their education. Please hit the mods with a ping in Discord and put INVESTIGATE in your subject line if you're interested in exploring a new location. Nanami may be putting in some public appearances in threads this week; otherwise, please ping + Discord tag her or the (SHEEP) if you want to speak with then. All NPCs are still available for their private contacts as well!

As a reminder, AC runs Sunday to Sunday concurrent with these posts and is collected based on the prior week; this means you have a whole week to get in AC for the week prior. AC for week 3 should be submitted no later than this coming Sunday. Remember to submit your regains, and sign up for a spot exploring this week's mystery if you want to!

Abandoned Dorm Investigation

[Well, hey, what's this, now? This room definitely sticks out like a sore thumb brutalized by Big Thumb Pete. This place is so disorganized! Welp, the first place she decides to look is at the wastebin! She dumps everything out on the floor in front of her and inspects the contents.]

Outside the Laundry Room

[Adorabat has both Simon Norwell, her doll bunny, and Cynthiphelle out. She shakes the bunny a little.]

I don't see why you want to go into that dumb laundry room, Cynthiphelle!

[She shakes Cynthiphelle.]

To defeat the monster from the angry washing machine! Duh!

Oooh, I dunno, Simon. I kind of agree with Cynthiphelle. That washing machine bubble monster needs to be defeated! The other students aren't safe!

Library

[Adorabat seems to be randomly flitting about in the room. She reads the title of one book, then goes to a shelf, reading the title of a book, then goes to a different shelf... Perhaps she's looking for something. But what?]

[The first thing that you notice is a photograph! It appears to be a class photo of the current class of Ira Academy, including Nanami and... this girl?]

[Adorabat will be quietly snatching that to show off to everyone else. The next thing she checks is the half-open drawers.]

[At first, it looks like everything is normal. Clothes...contraband... wait. Who hides snack food in their drawers? Is that... a comic book?]

[violence_ensues]

[GASP! Contraband food! Adorabat will have to coffisate it to show the others. And what's with this comic book? Adorabat briefly flips through it to see if there's any clues.

...WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE'S JUST READING IT THIS IS IMPORTANT POLICE BUSINESS QUIET YOU.]

[You’ll have to flip through it backwards, it seems that this is a manga. Volume Two of… The Death God Theory?

It appears to be about a young man who fights death gods with a notebook of some kind. It’s more action oriented than you’d first think.]

[This is the first manga she's ever encountered. What of this pile of shenanigans? But she can't help but find this... actually super cool! She'll just coffisate it and poke about in the class notebooks for- WAIT.

What are these girl's interests magazines that's hiding under the notebooks?]

[Fashion, some pamphlets for various girls schools, gossip magazines… they’re not particularly aimed at one thing or another. Except there’s a romance manga or two hidden in there. It never goes beyond dating but… the couples are girls. There’s a lot of hand holding.]

[Oh, so those backward comic girls are friends with each other! Kinda weird that they're holding hands. Are friends supposed to hold hands? ...Never mind. POLICE BUSINESS!

These weird comics don't seem to be that interesting, so she'll quickly browse them to see if there's anything of note related to any weird mysteries involving this skewl.]

[There's nothing in them that seem relevant to the school but there is one thing that you might want to look at. Why is the mirror missing...?]

[violence_ensues]

[...Yeah, Adorabat will let this slide as she places the magazines back on the desks. Out of the corner of her eyes, she notices the missing mirror. That's a little strange. Why didn't she pay it any mind earlier? Oh well! Time to look closer. Is there anything notable about this missing mirror?]

Huh...? Why ya missing, mister mirror?

[It seems that the frame is burned slightly, but done so long enough that the faint smell is gone.]

[Burned... The prissipull's doing, perhaps?]

Laundry Room

[Emma quickly steps in front so Adorabat can see her signing.] And just how do you plan to defeat the monster?

[violence_ensues]

[Hello, Emma! Adorabat isn't having bubbles spew out into the floor this time!]

We gotta be super careful about this. The bubble monster is super strong and angry! I was thinking a quick sneak attack!

[Adorabat shakes Simon Norwell.]

The monster won't go down in one hit, Adorabat!

[Okay...she's hoping this is mostly just going to be a game of pretend.]

And where is the monster hiding?

[It is, Emma will see so soon. Adorabat shakes Cynthiphelle.]

It's in the angry washing machine! It's heavily defended by the door. But I know the code. I found it while outside last week!

Cynthiphelle's the only one that knows the code.

[A contradiction to the sheep saying no one left the fence, which may mean that Adorabat pretended Cynthiphelle went outside.]

Oh, wow, really? That makes you a V-I-P then, doesn't it? We have to keep her safe while she enters the code!

[Sure, she'll play along. Memories of happier times dance through her head as she does.]

[Adorabat puts on a super serious face. She'll nod at Emma.]

Be ready to strike at a moment's notice... Simon, no whining.

But.

NO WHINING!

[She picks both of her dolls up and slowly walks into the laundry room, being super playfully careful, briefly glancing back to see if Emma is following.]

[Emma is definitely following behind, although once they enter the room she moves a distance from Adorabat, spreading out in order to "flank" the laundry monster. She does a quick sign for "flanking" as well, to signal her intentions.]

[violence_ensues]

[Adorabat nods and ever so carefully to the washing machine. Once she's in front of it, she sets down Simon and flies up to the controls of the washing machine. SHe shakes Cynthiphelle.]

Emma, I'm gonna need some silence for this. It requires a lotta consetatin.

[temmapathy]

[Emma gives a serious-looking thumbs-up, crouching down where she is and sliding slowly forwards, eyes on the scene to see what Cynthiphelle/Adorabat is about to do.]

[violence_ensues]

[Adorabat has Cynthiphelle twist and turn random knobs for what appears to be many moments. There's a couple breaks where Adorabat wipes the imaginary sweat off of Cynthiphelle's forehead, and the bat makes beepy noises along the way, pretending that the washing machine is an advanced piece of tech. Adorabat eventually turns her head enough for Emma to read her lips.]

...Get ready, she's almost done. When I say go, go, got it?

[Emma nods, bracing herself and signing quickly:]

Ready!

This is absolutely adorable

[Adorabat nods, making Cynthiphelle turn the knobs for just a moment longer. Then, she presses the button, immediately drops Cynthiphelle down on the washing machine, turns around, and flings the washing machine door open.]
