WEEK 3
All three deaths last were tragic in their own ways. Was trust so fragile in that castle that a simple misunderstanding could end in blood? It seemed to be the case. The trial proved that without a doubt. Surely no one else would make that mistake again. As another week begins the tea cup elevator has granted access to a new area. Maybe the new amusements of a festival will ease your wounded hearts?

[It's time for week three! We're almost half-way done with our trip in the castle. Don't forget to submit your memories here and your activity here. Even though, the Queen seems to be a little more steady on her feet you can find her and the other Alice at the audience hall. As always, don't forget to submit your comments for fabulous prizes.]

This definitely helps clarify some things... was this something you found in Miki's room?

[Just like with Nigel, she slides the photograph with the typewritten text on it across to him.]
I've yet to learn more about this third chess piece, however.

Ah... There was one of those in Ninagawa's room too. "Will you forget everything or will you be forgotten?"
[ He didn't have anything to take a picture with, and he doesn't have the note pieces on him now, but he remembers it well enough. ]
It sounded like a threat, and given the way the paper was ripped in half, I think she took it as one too.

Sayaka Miki-san seems to have taken it as a threat, as well--that someone else would act.
It was never about the other victims in this case.

Anyway, this is definitely interesting. ]
Does that mean there are certain people whose deaths they have more of an investment in than others? Or were they just trying to ensure that they got more than the minimum two deaths out of this?
[ He guesses either way could potentially be used as a method for maximizing the magical energy received in a given week, if that's the kind of thing they're after, but it also limits how many weeks of cases they can have, and he'd been under the impression before that they were interested in stretching the game out as long as possible. ]

[As soon as she speaks, however, Oriko pauses, thinks over what she just said, then paces back and forth a few steps. It helps her think, work out some of that nervous energy.]
I haven't heard any mention of Queen Alice-san from the previous round of this "game," though. Can you recall one?

[ He is just saying that having one twin as the mastermind and the other secretly within the ranks of the game's participants is not unheard of. ]
I guess another possibility is that the Queen was asleep throughout much of that round while the Cat ran things on her own... maybe she's only been able to stay active as long we've known her because of whatever power she got from all those lives before.

[That she might have missed such an obvious possibility... it's so frustrating. She clenches a fist, setting down the photograph in disgust.]
It would make sense if that were the case. I've noticed that she is retaining energy exponentially following each death... In a few weeks, I don't even know what we should expect.

[ And if it wasn't, he's not sure what benefit there could be to her implying otherwise. ]
I don't know what to expect either, though. I suppose in a best case scenario the Queen having more of a presence might help rein in the Cat's worst impulses, but...
[ Who knows, really. ]

[She wouldn't be this blunt with just any of the children, but she doesn't think she needs to mince words around him.]
no subject
[ That one seems a lot more likely. ]

I think Queen Alice-san is beginning to understand the real outcome of the game, and she isn't completely comfortable with it.
But do you convince her, simply, to stop? What child can hear the words "you no longer deserve to be alive" and accept them? I doubt it can be argued at all.

[And...after the trial the next day he might understand what she says here a little better, but hindsight is 20/20, isn't it?]
... If she understands the fault in that now, it might be different, but besides that, I agree with you. There really is no "talking this out."
