You're My Friend, They're My Friends (IC Intro)
Whatever you were doing before, wherever you were before this moment it doesn't matter. The world seems to grow dark around you: an almost inaudible giggle floats to your year before you lose consciousness completely. Other it belonging to a child there's no defining characteristics of the voice. Maybe you just imagined it? Even if you did, one thing is clear when you wake up.
You're not where you were before. The bedroom you find yourself is plush and well decorated, almost like a fancy hotel or apartment. That might be little comfort considering that it's clear that you don't recognize it. Before you rush off to explore your surroundings there's a message pinned to the door to the hall.
From the desk of the Queen:
Hello, my friends dear.
I can only hope you enjoy your new life here. For those you stirring from sleep, this is my promise that I will keep: I will let you go if that is what you desire but the price for it will be quite dire.
For my rules are quite clear that I don't wish you to leave. Yet I will, if you can take the grief.
If you wish to know my name and the reasons to my game, meet in the audience hall for tea. Tea, yes, a grand tea party for my grand guests! Cake and sweets are what we need to meet. In an hour we both will be there, no peeking before!
Signed,
Instead of a signature, there's a small feline paw print underneath as well as some strange sort of heart crest?
There seems to be others moving outside your room. Perhaps it's time to explore, to see if anyone else knows what's going on. Don't slip on the playing card (an ace of hearts, with the heart shape replaced by the strange crest). That there's a scribbled phrase of 'dormez-vous? dormez-vous?' on the card but surely one of the others slipped it under your door.
This Castle seems like a strange place ot live in... yet for now it's quiet and peaceful, even if the Audience Hall is locked.

...But he won't be able to confirm whether that's the case or not by just staying in this room, so he steps out into the hall, tentatively, unsure if he's going to be greeted by other children or adults. (There's at least a sigh of relief when it turns out to be the former, though the fact that they're not wearing a Monokuma helmet... hm.) ]
Excuse me. Does this "game" idea mean anything in particular to you?
[ Of course, going anywhere means he soon winds up in the portrait gallery, where he looks over everyone's information and then comes back to his own, frowning at the title. ]
That's... How were these titles decided upon?

It seems different to me too, but... [ Maybe not that much. ] You were involved in some sort of game before this, though?

Hm... I wonder how many of us have something like that in common. Where did yours take place?
portrait gallery;
[ Gil had no trouble with his title because it's just fine. ]
Then again, it looks like there's something else we should be concerned about too...

The matter of how they got this information in the first place, you mean? The basic stats are one thing, but the likes and dislikes and quotations...

[ He didn't think his held any deep dark secrets or anything. He'll glance over at Nagisa's and a few of the others, though. It looks like he lucked out here! ]
...Not only that, thinking about it. It looks like we're to participate in an awful game?
no subject
Yes, that seems to be the case.
It's... wrong, though. There isn't supposed to be a game that pits children against each other like this.

[She remembers saying what she said. She should pick out this guy's portrait in a second too, might as well.]
Sounds almost like they've been watching us... or maybe explored our minds.

but the thought of someone actually seeing his thoughts is more of a stretch... or so he hopes.
Then again, with brainwashing and memory erasure already out there as real and usable techniques... ]
I... suppose neither of those is impossible, though I'd prefer to believe the former.

our canons are science fiction but l o l]
I don't know... watching manually just makes me think they'd have to look even more to get the important stuff. But I guess it's creepy either way.

keeps picturing all these hall encounters like passing Pokemon trainers
Occasionally she'll lift the hand with the playing card like she's about to run it through her hair or wave at somebody, and that's how Nagisa catches her: one hand up, fingers wiggling a little.]
Ah! I didn't see you there. Sorry. [totally contrite even though she probably wasn't in that much danger of walking into him -- she definitely lowers her hand, though] Honestly, I was wondering if it all was a game? But it's hard to tell. Most games aren't this realistic.
i should warn you that his rattata is in the top percentage of rattatas
I'd say that depends on both your idea of realism and the kind of game that comes to mind. That letter did say this was supposed to be a game, though.
so I guess he's ratting someone out at trial then--
[She seems to hesitate, because well. The technology here is Not Great in terms of modernity and some people seem to be wandering around more dazed and confused than she was falling over a playing card. But shshhhh.]
Some of them are advanced enough that it can be hard to completely tell parts of them from reality. But I don't think they're allowed to make things that are so realistic people get confused.
All these rules really would make more sense if this was virtual, though.

Throwing adjectives at the wall and waiting for something to stick? [ ... ] No, I got nothing. Sure looks like they're not a fan of you, though.

[ He'd really just been musing to himself rather than addressing anyone in particular, and he's not sure what he'd expected to see when he turns around to respond, but it... wasn't a duck in clothes, even if he has already seen her profile, and he blinks.
Hm. Somehow he figured she was just going to be a person in a mascot costume, or an AI in a robot like Kurokuma, but her size would seem to rule out the former, and the eyes and feathers and everything look awfully realistic for the latter, so.......... he doesn't really know what to make of this.
(And he guesses he could offer to change what he just said to "on the bill", but that sounds pretty patronizing, so he's just going to not do that.) ]
Ah... Lena-san, right?
no subject
[ anyway don't worry someone will straight up refer to her bill as "lips" in-show like a year from her canon point, ducktales is a nightmare ]
At least it's shorter than Ms. Priss over there.

Attempting to use most people I have talked to thus far as players in such a scheme would lead to discovery and capture very quickly! And.. and criminals avoid detection, where they can.
