All Hail the Queen

[An hour passes in this strange place. There's silence for a few moments. Then loud talking starts.]

They don't seem to like me... [A young girl's voice, timid and small despite the fact that everyone can hear her.]

Does it matter? If we act like the sun or the north wind, it's no skin off our backs. [A second voice answers... the same voice? Could she just be talking to herself?] You are the Queen. All ways are your ways.

Yes. Alice is the Queen.

[At this statement, the doors quickly open. As the Queen's note said there's a large table filled with tea and sweets in the middle of the audience hall. There's even chairs for everyone. Far from the ground on an balcony is a large throne. On the throne is a young girl, with a small fluffy cat in her lap. The girl smiles briefly.]

I'm Alice the Queen.

[The cat jumps on the railing of the balcony to stare dispassionately at the gathered group before jumping on the throne herself. Within a few seconds a copy of the Queen is sitting next to her, dressed in black.]

And I'm Alice the Chesire Cat. Welcome to our Castle. [There's a dryness to the Cat's voice that is missing from the Queen's.]

I'm sure we can answer your questions! Come, it's time for Alice's Tea Party! Let's begin, Alice.

[Welcome to Wonderland.]

[ Violet sits down at the table, being a polite sort of girl. There's a stiffness to her, though, as she examines the food. That would be a mark of the sort of girl she's had to become. ]

It's a little difficult to enjoy the hospitality when I don't know what's become of my siblings, though.

We didn't do anything to them. We can't say for certain what's happening to them right now.

[ It is a known fact of negotiation, something Violet has never personally studied yet has a great deal of experience with, that many in positions of power can be convinced to share information particularly effectively through making that person think it was their idea. Once in a now-derelict town in the USSR, on a rare day and a half of vacation, I was tied to a chair in a shack and escaped by making my captor believe it was his idea to untie me and play a round of two-person musical chairs.

In a way, we both won. But I was the one who had to escape the wolverines, which was hardly a prize to write home about. ]

But they are where you left them when you captured me?

Yep, they should still be there.

[ That's not the most comforting answer she could have received, Violet thought, but was also not the least. ]

Not to sound ungrateful, but you picked an inconvenient time to kidnap me.

Silly Alice, you made her worry.

[This is probably the first time within this whole meeting that Alice the Cat flinches.]
