WEEK ONE

This week, students at Ira Academy must return to class with their memories of the weekend hanging over them. The Principal is watching now, and he dislikes children even more than his initial draconian idea of education led everyone to believe. The rules revision is probably at the forefront of most people’s minds, along with the sinking paranoia of being monitored much more closely and more severely reprimanded for stepping out of line. This very empty academy building suddenly feels all the more claustrophobic. All students now have the option to commit murder and be freed from this school. Less than a week ago, you were teaching yourself to be friends with some of your fellow classmates. Will things remain that way, or will someone reveal themselves to be willing to take a life to escape?

But just because murder’s on the table doesn’t mean that your studies are off of it, and the Little Brothers are still here to helpfully encourage all students to complete their coursework. Despite being shepherded away at the end of the school dance announcement last night, this week the Prefect will be back for her office hours and, thankfully, less fixated on pulling off a successful weekend spelling bee and social event. Less thankfully, it seems she believes that completing your re-education as originally planned is the correct course of action. You’d do well to remember, perhaps, that right now your success reflects ultimately on her. Students who prefer to see how their fellow school denizen and prisoner-in-spirit can also sneak into the music room whenever it’s unoccupied to converse with A.

To that end, it also looks like someone’s posted a “Tutors and Study Groups” sign-up sheet on the hallway walls outside the A/V room. There are illustrated descriptions next to it, so even someone who doesn’t understand the writing should be able to glean its purpose. This seems like a good way for people who are interested in working together or helping one another with anything involved in school life. Students may make use of this resource as they will.

Finally, at the end of the hallway near the music room, a sliding wall has receded as if it was never there in the first place, revealing an unexplored area on this floor.. Hmm, what could be up there?

Welcome to Week 1! As with last week, if you have anything you’d like to investigate, you can bring mod responses in by pinging (INVESTIGATION) in your subject line. (SHEEP) for the Little Brothers. Unlike last week, Nanami can also be invited to participate in your threads with a (PREFECT) call-out. This is an option for anyone who wants non-private/event convos with her, if for some reason anyone wants to spend MORE time with her. If you are looking for information about the school’s mysteries, it's highly recommended you bring in the sheep or the mod journal instead!

Yeah! So I don't have to fingerspell your names all the time. I guess they can be kind of like nicknames? But some of them are just directly based on your English names. Like your last name-

[She signs "forge," using the variation with two hands sliding past each other.]

Since you're the only kid with that last name, I could use that sign whenever I'm talking about you.

[Anya's eyes sparkle with wonder for a moment before she imitates the action. Forge.]

[It reminds her she has a family to return to now. She refuses to not believe in them. She has to.]

[Reika is both literally and figuratively here for this meeting. Does she have anything important to share? Maybe. It's hard to say when she's instead focused on the snacks.]

Umm, Why do you have to be like a child in order to enter the kingdom? That really seems like a really weird law. King Snugglemagne lets everyone into his kingdom if you aren't a criminal.

[ Valmont is, against at least some odds, here! His cowlick is sticking out at a more extreme angle than usual, as though his morning routine were performed rather hastily, and his head might find itself drooping during some (okay, most) of the liturgy - but he's here, and That's What Counts. He even manages to jerk himself awake enough for communion, which is saltier than he remembered, and mumble his way through the last of the prayers: ]

...and the Holy Spirit, amen. Right. When's lunch?

Yeah, definitely not. He's a mondo bad dude, and I'm gettin' some real Buttnik vibes from him.

[This is a more cogent question than she expected.]

The young and the old are all welcome. You could think of a child as someone who has not yet committed any crimes. It is more like you must serve a complete sentence for all of your crimes before you can enter the kingdom of heaven. Mostly, I felt it would encourage you all. Since we are all children.

[Yes, it's Ritz crackers, that's canon now. Honestly Valmont at least seems to be tuning in FOR remembered prayers so that earns him a little credit.]

I believe this is another "day of rest". So there is no reason to have lunch at a particular time after class. We could go right after cleaning up if you like. I should return the remaining crackers, after all.

[He is free to optimistically interpret that as "the two of us". The main reason she's not explicitly directing it to the entire group at once is that some of them like Thomasin seem to want more time with God. Or time with their ambivalent feelings.]

[Reika goes along with everything, and even volunteers for the first reading. She takes a quick moment to glance over it before she actually starts, which is good since it means she gets her double-take at the first mention of the Lamb out of her system in advance instead of there being an awkward pause in mid-Revelation. Instead her reading is calm and clear, sounding convincingly like she knows what she's talking about.

If you didn't know, you'd never guess this was the first Bible passage she'd ever seen.]

[ He's not too hard to miss. Right now he's kind of slumped over the piano, leaning on the keys...

He glances up at the dog... Well, Hunter doesn't seem too bitter at the moment, only stressed and tired. ]

Ok, guys, First things first, we gotta talk about what the Principal did last night. I don't think I gotta say it, but I'll say it anyways: this guy is NOT our friend.

So let's put our heads together and figure out exactly what we know right now about him, and everything he's said about how we got here. We should, uh, probably also give each other some basic info about ourselves if we haven't yet?

So...yeah, let's do this!
