FINAL TRIAL

THE ABANDONED ACADEMY

It's time to run.

Armed with whatever they've managed to accumulate to defend themselves (or whatever they've might use to go on the offensive), as well as any information they've collected, the students can regroup after their final escalation and begin their descent back down into the school, accompanied by the sound of klaxon.

Near the fourth floor, a bloody trail follows you. The eager young slime that Adorabat befriended joins you on your flight. What use the creature might be is up to debate yet her presence is proof that at least not all monsters are hungry for your destruction.

By the time everyone reaches the third floor, however, their path is suddenly blocked. The already sporadic lights flicker once, then go off completely, and the hallways fill completely with purple mist that swirls apart as Kakuya, in her kitsune doll form, appears in the shadow of the hallway. The wall panels that once peeled away to allow access up from the lower floors slam shut again.

Being cut off from the lower floors might allow the students more of a chance to confront their captor face-to-face, for better or for worse. As the blaring sirens and shaking infrastructure demonstrate, there are hungry, desperate things eager to make their way through the entire school and devour everything in their paths.

"...Do you think you're clever?"

The doll speaks and her voice echoes in your mind. Her lips, as always, never move. Their constant painted smile betrays the seething anger emanating from her. As she speaks, it becomes difficult to even move. Kakuya is no longer above showing how strong she is. "Do you... think... you're smarter than Kakuya?" Two solid thuds collide with the floor as she moves closer. "Do...you think you're better than... the ice woman who strayed from her... path?" The cold autumn wind swirls the mist around as she walks forward. "Perhaps you... think you're stronger... than the stone lion? More quick witted than... the young samurai with his sickle? More righteous than... than the deluded martyr? More cunning than the... apprentice siren?"

Kakuya's smile looks more like a sneer as she looks at everyone before her, unable to move. The lights of her fox fire lighting up the fog swirling around."The laughing game... the defeat the oni game... tag... the keeping your balance game... the get away game... All five... failed and disappeared... Kakuya doubts you will have better luck. Now... Let's play... for the last time."

As soon as she speaks, she lets her grip on everyone loosen. You may finally act. The fox-like game master wills it to be so. One way or another, there's no going back to the status quo of this game. The semester is about to end, and only one questions remains:

What will be your final move?

OOC NOTES

Welcome to your final "trial" for Round 2! Today, characters will go through their last confrontation with Kakuya in their final attempt to escape from Ira Academy. This will happen in two phases. One, is the first confrontation with Kakuya and trying to figure out how to escape her or calm her down. Two, is the final confrontation that will finally decide the fate of the game.

Since characters have uncovered the power of belief as a weapon to be used against the horrors of Closetland, this power may be tapped into during a time of great need during this final trial. We would like all players to have the option to use this power equally if desired and to make the most room for a collaborative experience where everyone can shine as possible. Please ping the mods directly if you plan to invoke the power of belief so we everyone can work together on this finale!

As a note, even though they weren't mentioned any pets obtained during the game are safe. They will be returned after the finale.

INVESTIGATION

The relative peace of this week has, in some ways, been a welcome reprieve from the past month and a half of terror. There's no escaping reality for that long, though. The swarm of dolls late on Tuesday night were a rude reawakening, serving as a reminder of the game that everyone is still playing, even if your host is quieter than normal.

By the time Friday rolls around, there's virtually nothing of Kakuya's presence remaining. Though Ira Academy has been alarmingly silent many mornings before, it's never been quite so...abandoned. The power in the building is struggling. Runner lights have come on to illuminate the flickering hallways in the event they're plunged into darkness (and every so often, they are). Looking out at the playground reveals it has fallen completely into an Autumn fog, the different play structures moving slightly on their own in the bitter wind. The Little Brother units have all been deactivated before they even had time to retreat to their normal closet hideaways. Their still figures linger around the school, unmoving, eyes dull.

With the loss of any other presence around, the students are completely alone, but there's no escaping the school itself just yet. On your morning wanderings, you'll find that a new area has opened up on the fifth floor. A wall, previously thought just to be a wall, opens up in the Little Fears room. A plaque on the newly opened door tells you clearly that you're not supposed to be here: Staff Only. If Nanami knew of this area she's long forgotten it.

This area has three smaller subsections - a large room with a heavy metal door, a fancy looking bedroom with adjoining office, and several spacious meeting rooms - just enough for a few of you to explore each. It's time to rely on one another and try to unravel the final questions of this school and this horrifying game.

What will you find?

WEEK SIX

Death itself isn't an end to this sinister game, and the only outcome is to play until you die.

Even without the boundaries being pushed too much last week, it would seem that the stakes continue to rise. Students will enter the new week with three of their number taken away. The class is half its size by now, the number of dead underscored by the number of dorm doors that don't open every morning, the number of seats that aren't filled out in any given room.

The atmosphere of Ira Academy has always been hostile. This week, however, the malice is more present than ever, choking the air. It's easy to feel watched at all times, especially with the knowledge that everyone is bound to the one orchestrating this ongoing killing game. Doors will sometimes open themselves invitingly only to slam closed a few moments later, mercurial in temperament and just as susceptible to the dark anger creeping through the building as the students.

For now, no new locations have opened up to explore in the school. The fifth floor remains the tallest in the building, and there's a certain sense that everything is just bound to repeat itself until there's nothing left.

Though same things remain the same, others feel as if they're on the precipice of change. Just how long can everyone go on under the threat of further violence? Even Kakuya seems to be worried now that her game can't persist like this forever. Perhaps one of the other Academy denizens can shine some light on things throughout the week, or your belief that you can save yourselves and your friends will open up new doors. There have to be answers out there: Who will find them?

OOC NOTES

Welcome to the final week of Round 2! There will be no traditional motive-murder-trial set up this week, and instead, we will try to solve the Ira Academy situation once and for all. Information on the final investigation for this week will go live later this afternoon. Characters will be split into exploration groups - Nanami will come along for this ride!

While there are no new areas for investigation this week, please feel free to ping mod characters for any public needs or reach out to them on their private posts for things your character would prefer to discuss 1:1. We hope you enjoy the ride!

FIFTH TRIAL

THE CONTAINMENT CENTER

There are two more dead this week, and some unusual locations led to some unusual and interesting evidence. Once the students have had time to scour the affected areas and collect their clues, Kakuya's lilting telepathic voice guides them back to the elevator. Everyone now has plenty of elbow room - and plenty of carrying space to bring down the evidence, living creatures and all.

In addition to the constant strobing of the lights and the scream of metal chafing against metal, those who can tune into the softer noises in the background might hear snippets of a song on their descent. Though the lyrics are garbled and unintelligible as any other song playing in the soda fountain, a muffled crooner keens in the distance. The familiar clown whose presence is a constant despite the shifting cells, however, is 32 22 flavors and then some. He precariously balances a multi-scoop ice cream cone in one patient hand, all of its assorted scoops unpleasant and sickly colors. Multiple punctured balloons hang down from his other arm, wrinkled and dripping what is probably chocolate sauce. A cohort of aliens that look like every mid-century American fantasy of the little green men from outer space hone their weapons in silence. For the most part, every monster looks less restless now, but the hunger hasn't faded from any of them. If anything, it's intensified. If anything, it looks like they're biding their time.

There is, however, no sign of Father in his new prison. If he's suffering from the consequences he faces, you won't get the satisfaction of seeing that just yet.

Without the stark light of Father's telecomm screen, the trial room is a little bit darker but no less brutal. There's no longer a Prefect's desk visible by the podiums. Nanami, with nowhere to go, stands around aimlessly for a few moments, fidgeting, before finally taking a petulant seat on the open floor.

Kakuya, herself, is no where to be seen but the faint sound of flute music announces that she is watching. A voice echoes in the back of your mind as you return to your familiar podiums.

"It... looks like two of you are gone... Find out who killed... Koishi and Carrie, won't you? Kakuya... won't mind if you don't but don't... give up right away, okay? That would be no... good."

She laughs in her familiar, childish way. "Kakuya... wants to see what... you do this time... friends. Let's... start."

OOC NOTES

Welcome to the fifth trial! Today's trial image is the famous eldritch cafe illustration by Jeff Paul Johnson. There are two dead this week, and success will entail solving both murders. Despite the shakeup in the management recently, there are still NPC question sections available.

Evidence Reminders:
  • If you can carry it you probably can bring it. While the body itself isn't allowed into the trial, most things are, including live animals.
  • If your character has access to a piece of evidence and you don't know if you can bring it in, you can either ask the mods privately if that's possible or by pinging them in the post itself.
  • If a piece of evidence is forgotten or the original finder otherwise can't present it (an emergency, etc), you can either assume retroactively that someone did or that the sheep brought it in to make sure that everything is tidy.
  • As always, just put MODS in the header of your comment to get our attention for any clarification.
Good luck!

INVESTIGATION

After Thursday night, there are a few unexpected emotions injected into the atmosphere of Ira Academy: longing, determination...perhaps even hope, for some. After everything that's been learned and shared between realms, some students may even find themselves believing that victory can be achieved without any more death. Maybe there's just one more investigation, one more puzzle, one more piece of missing context left to find before the way forward is clear.

There's no shaking the knowledge of past patterns, however, and the morning brings with it a familiar apprehension. Ira Academy itself may not have gotten the memo about the shift in vibes. It's a dreary pseudo-fall morning like the week before, ushering in a bleak and eerily silent day as the students rise one by one to find what's in store for them this time. Many have said it by now - bad things happen on Thursday nights, and no amount of hearing the voice of a lost companion over an old touchtone phone can completely erase that experience.

Though your numbers are fewer now than they ever have been, the school is so much bigger than it was during your first week at Ira Academy. The extra amount ground makes it all the easier to recognize just how many of you there no longer are to cover it. The five vast floors of the school, now under new management, wait for someone to see if Kakuya's incentive forced another participant to play along - best get exploring to find what secrets are out there.

WEEK FIVE

There's one thing that belongs in Closetland: Monsters.

It was a monster that brought the students here to begin with, and it's a monster who controls their lives now. By now, some have even accused their classmates of turning into--or always being--monsters themselves.

The academy is just as cold as it was last week, autumn air seeping in through the unfriendly architecture and the artificial light seeming darker than before. The occasionally cloud of purple fog snakes through the hallways at ground level, a constant reminder of the new presence haunting the school and her role in the past five weeks of torment. Now that Kakuya is back in a body of her own making, the music room is silent, though the rooms and halls of the Academy themselves occasionally fill with a low, haunting flute melody. With the school's new overlord already wishing her ill, Nanami's already deflating power and free roam capabilities are more or less completely limited as well: She's just one more toy in the box.

The stairwell has opened into another new floor. Upon closer inspection, it seems to be the uppermost one. This is the top of Ira Academy, and while it likely bears some new answers and some new locations to try and find a solution to your plight, is there anything that can heal some of the rifts that formed from the accusations thrown at the last trial? Still, if you don't find answers, then you'll be here playing this eternal deadly game.

Is the devil you know better than the devil you don't?

THIRD TRIAL

THIRD TRIAL

THE CONTAINMENT CENTER

Still hungry, and perhaps with some new fashionable shoe colors, the students are herded into the elevator, which is lined with a plastic tarp this week. With the elevator becoming a perpetually emptier space, there's plenty of room for the Prefect herself to squeeze in next to everyone else, standing at the front of the group and ineffectively covering the side of her head with her free hand as soon as the tearing screen of metal and high-buzzing florescent lights kicks in.

The descent this time takes the group of students past several new chambers. The first is occupied by a grotesque caricature of a lunch lady, who ladles unidentifiable pitch black goop onto a constantly rotating line of trays as she smiles at the group with a single tooth. The clown, ever present for the show with his dwindling collection of balloons, rides a tiny tricycle through pools of spilled acrylic paint, the wheels squeaking as they paint out blood red patterns on the cell floor. The last chamber the students will see before arriving in the trial room is completely empty, save for a cloudy grey fog that blinks inside it like a thundercloud.

Instead of the usual black ram emblem on the telecom screen, the Principal's flame-wreathed silhouette is visible this week, though his chair is turned away from the camera and only the outline of his back seems to be visible. There's an empty container of Rocky Road ice cream sitting next to him on a side table, the spoon still balanced in the carton. The entire trial room itself smells like the lunch time rush at a cafeteria or fast food restaurant, the smells of grilling meat, roasting vegetables, and sweet dessert occasionally passing through a chamber that is completely devoid of any actual food.

With some hesitation, Nanami goes to the desk next to the podiums and takes her old seat. She glances back at the projector screen, then her shoulders slump forward and she leans down against the desk.

"It's happened again. Valmont, the... Boss...Baby. Has been killed. Maybe this really will go on forever, until no one is left... Anyway, you need to find out what happened if you want to live and not starve. ...Don't forget the rules. Get started."

As she finishes speaking a sheep walks around the trial room, handing everyone an apple and some graham crackers. Of course, even Nanami gets a small treat. The Little Brother glances at the shape of Father in his chair before quietly placing a finger to it's robotic face only for the angry voice of your Principal rings out. "Hey! Don't--ah, forget it. That'll get you through the trial. Maybe you'll bust a gut or something. What are you waiting for?! You heard Miss Kiryuu, start already!"

WEEK 3

WEEK THREE

Two weeks, two trials, four deaths.

One thing is certain: The monster in charge of this place knows enough about everyone here that he also knows what can drive some of them desperate enough to kill. He is powerful, and he has access, and he despises the whole student body. The face of the class' captor has been revealed now, in a sense, and the flames of his hatred for children have turned out to be very real.

At least, for now, the students of Ira Academy have one another to lean on. Some might have found the post-trial camaraderie a comfort. At least everyone hasn't given up hope. At least many students are still finding their anger and their will to fight back.

There are fewer pretenses this coming week. Classes proceed as normal; the school day still functions as normal, but the further everyone comes from that first fateful meeting with the man in charge of this school, the further away and more incomprehensible the thought that there was ever really a chance of going along with the original plan, completing reeducation, and staying safe.

...Of course, you could still try. There'd be nothing stopping you.

But you won't, will you? That's just how the students of Ira Academy are. You'll visit the third floor of the Academy, ascending the newly opened flight of stairs. Maybe you'll investigate one of the new rooms, dwarfed by the echoes that bounce of the uninvitingly tall ceilings. There's probably still something in this place on your side.

Will you work together, or will you grow further apart?

SECOND TRIAL

THE CONTAINMENT CENTER

((CW implied cannibalism from monsters, clowns.))

Once all of the relevant rooms have been searched, it's time to dry tears and gather up evidence. The sheep, whirring dully and many of them hanging their heads, gradually round the remaining children up and begin herding them to the elevator doors. Even with only two extra people missing, it's much roomier inside once the doors are closed. Once everyone is loaded, the car begins its shrieking descent, lights and sounds grating equally as the students are once more shuttled down to the containment area.

Some of the cells on the way down contain familiar charges, but other denizens seem to have been moved. Or perhaps the layout of the containment area changed recently? Today, a large cell is home not only to an elderly woman but her large rickety home. She sits on her porch with a certain grace, even if there's a glint in her eye that feels more malicious than kindly as she beckons at you with a gnarled finger. The sudden scrambling of her home's talons might startle the unprepared. Another cell contains nothing more than a constantly roaring fire, the blaze stretched wall to wall and pulsing rhythmically at its core every so often, as it if it had its own beating heart.

For anyone worried the clown wouldn't be returning: Have no fear! The gang's friend is here again, though there are two fewer intact balloons now gripped in his hand. He's even taken efforts to look beautiful for everyone observing through the cell doors, and the red makeup around his lips is bright and freshly applied. Beautiful! Until he draws the flat of his knife across his mouth, and the source becomes obvious, just as bright as it was a week ago.

In the courtroom--the depressing, angular nightmare that passes for one--the stone podiums stand waiting for their respective students once more. With a couple more empty than the last time the group was down here, they're looking more and more like gravestones.

The desk is still down here, albeit empty this time. But the projector screen is exactly the same, the ram's head looking out at the sick entertainment on offer. For someone who's turned all of this into his own person theater, one would think he'd sound delighted by the death and destruction. Instead, his strong voice is just as clipped and angry as it always is. He barks out a command.

"Time to actually use those minds of yours! I guess this witch hunt is about to begin. Find out what happened to Thomasin or it'll be your necks on the line!"

OOC NOTES

Welcome to your second trial for Round 2! As we know that trials and any afterparties can get busy, we'd like to quickly remind everyone to make sure their Week 1 AC is squared away by tomorrow's weekly post and to start collecting their Week 2 threads to submit. Make sure to get your regains in by tomorrow night as well!

As a clarification for what evidence can be brought in, a rule of thumb is that if you can carry it you probably can bring it. We mainly want to discourage corpse desecration, if we can, so while the body itself isn't allowed into the trial most things are. If your character has access to a piece of evidence and you don't know if you can bring it in, you can either ask the mods privately if that's possible or by pinging them in the post itself. If a piece of evidence is forgotten, you can either assume retroactively that someone did or that the sheep brought it in to make sure that everything is tidy.

WEEK 2

WEEK TWO

Two weeks is plenty of time to get used to a new school, but the horrors of Ira Academy are likely to require much more acclimation than that. The lesson learned this weekend may be more important than anything else taught thus far: Regardless of motivation, regardless of friendliness, regardless of heroism, any member of the student body could turn out to be a killer.

Starting this week, the immovable, impenetrable glass wall blocking the staircase by the first aid station has receded. Students are free to go up the stairs beyond that wall and leave the ground floor of the school for the first time.

The new area that opens up in the Academy couldn't come at a better time. Past the landing, where a new ascending flight of stairs now waits behind another thick impenetrable wall of glass, the second floor greets students with muted, calming colors. The rooms in this area of the school house activities targeted at calming, freeing, or emptying the mind. After witnessing such terrible things on Saturday, it would be lovely to clear such thoughts away entirely, wouldn't it?

On Monday, classes will resume as normal, as if the student body had not undergone recent and horrific attrition. At least there are a fair few more places to hide now that the next floor has opened up, and it might be easier to avoid the Little Brothers trying to herd you into the classroom every now and then. It would be easy to let unease and paranoia reign over everyone. Perhaps, come Tuesday again, there will be another announcement from the Principal, holding another threat over everyone's head until the right person snaps and attempts the optional capstone project. There may be another mysterious phenomenon to follow through the school, seeking a hint of meaning or answers. Of course, you could all give up and choose re-education.

How will you move on?

OOC NOTES

Welcome to Week 2. The Prefect has been removed from play until further notice and will no longer be able to be contacted. Mod Shay will continue to work for the game on an administrative level. ICly, the Principal will mention vaguely that the Prefect has been removed from her duties for the foreseeable future. The IC rules will be updated to reflect this and that's how the characters will find out. The sheep will take up her work monitoring the school and have their own contact post, and the A/V room is still locked. While you're free to question this ICly, please be mindful of others and try not to push the issue either ICly or OOCly. This isn't related to the plot and shouldn't be treated as such.

As a reminder, AC runs Sunday to Sunday concurrent with these posts and is collected based on the prior week; this means you have a whole week to get in AC for the week prior. FIRST TRIAL

THE CONTAINMENT CENTER

After all the evidence is collected, the students themselves are as well. The Little Brother units gather them up in orderly fashion, encouraging the line to proceed two-by-two up the hallway beyond the music room and into the newly opened area. When grouped up together, the class just barely fits into the glass-paneled section of the decontamination chamber. It's hard not to wonder if the entire student body was never meant to make it this far in the first place. A short burst of pressurized air later and the panels lift - and, for the first time, the door to the containment facility opens before you. Behind it, an elevator beckons the class in. A Little Brother unit reaches inside, pushes a button, and the lift's real, see-through door closes before the lift begins to lower.

As the elevator descends, the car passes floor after floor of cellblocks. Start florescent lighting casts stark highlights onto each of them, and in those closest to the elevator car, shape after shape is visible. A wolf the size of an elephant with blood-tinged saliva dripping from it's massive fangs. A clown holding 20 multicolored balloons in one hand, a popped and shredded 21st hanging from the other out to you with a gap-toothed grin. A pit of writhing snakes with no beginning and no end. The feeling is comparable to the hungry, lingering gaze from outside the academy's fence. Looking out at the many cells, it's as if there's no barrier between them and the assembled students at all.

The car's moving too fast to see all of them clearly, but careful attention reveals one final detail: Some of them are completely empty. The other noticeable thing is the noise. Snarls, roars, sly chuckles, hissing, and even someone humming a haunting lullaby... they all mix together into a cacophony as you near the final destination.

When the elevator comes to a complete stop, the group is let out into a black-floored room illuminated by the same stark florescent lighting. Luckily, as soon as you go through the doorway the noise suddenly stops. The steep walls extend some two or three stories above without interruption, throwing stern, exaggerating angles reminiscent of brutalism. 21 stone podiums stand in a densely illuminated circle in the center of the room. Each one bears a name of one of the students in the class.

The Prefect is already waiting for everyone, sitting at a long desk backed by a projector screen bearing the same ram insignia from the post-spelling bee dance. Her hands are folded in front of her, and she barely moves.

"Looks like somebody attempted the alternative capstone. A week ago, I never would have believed it... but I know better now. Those who fall behind... just weaken the herd.

Luz, The Owlette, is dead. What a stupid title... I really hated it." The Prefect's expression staggers for a moment, then settles again. "Her murderer's still here, and the only way to prove that you deserve another chance in this school is to find them. Get the exam started."

There's a flicker on the screen behind her as the Principal speaks. "You heard Miss Kiryuu. We're beginning the exam, don't just stand around staring at each other!"

OOC NOTES

While played out OOCly on Saturdays, trials ICLY take place the afternoon after investigations are concluded. This means that characters will have only a brief period of rest to gather their thoughts before being brought down. While the podium layout graphic shows room numbers, the real stone does bear characters' names.

The victim's body will not be available for reexamination during the trial but other pieces of evidence small enough to carry/move with you can be brought down into the trial. If you need mod input or NPC input in the middle of a thread please put 'MODS' in the header so we can see. Trials play out until the killer is caught or until around 8pm Eastern, at which point we'll try to wrap up. Good luck!

WEEK 1

[personal profile] whimsicalism
WEEK ONE

This week, students at Ira Academy must return to class with their memories of the weekend hanging over them. The Principal is watching now, and he dislikes children even more than his initial draconian idea of education led everyone to believe. The rules revision is probably at the forefront of most people’s minds, along with the sinking paranoia of being monitored much more closely and more severely reprimanded for stepping out of line. This very empty academy building suddenly feels all the more claustrophobic. All students now have the option to commit murder and be freed from this school. Less than a week ago, you were teaching yourself to be friends with some of your fellow classmates. Will things remain that way, or will someone reveal themselves to be willing to take a life to escape?

But just because murder’s on the table doesn’t mean that your studies are off of it, and the Little Brothers are still here to helpfully encourage all students to complete their coursework. Despite being shepherded away at the end of the school dance announcement last night, this week the Prefect will be back for her office hours and, thankfully, less fixated on pulling off a successful weekend spelling bee and social event. Less thankfully, it seems she believes that completing your re-education as originally planned is the correct course of action. You’d do well to remember, perhaps, that right now your success reflects ultimately on her. Students who prefer to see how their fellow school denizen and prisoner-in-spirit can also sneak into the music room whenever it’s unoccupied to converse with A.

To that end, it also looks like someone’s posted a “Tutors and Study Groups” sign-up sheet on the hallway walls outside the A/V room. There are illustrated descriptions next to it, so even someone who doesn’t understand the writing should be able to glean its purpose. This seems like a good way for people who are interested in working together or helping one another with anything involved in school life. Students may make use of this resource as they will.

Finally, at the end of the hallway near the music room, a sliding wall has receded as if it was never there in the first place, revealing an unexplored area on this floor.. Hmm, what could be up there?

OOC NOTES

Welcome to Week 1! As with last week, if you have anything you’d like to investigate, you can bring mod responses in by pinging (INVESTIGATION) in your subject line. (SHEEP) for the Little Brothers. Unlike last week, Nanami can also be invited to participate in your threads with a (PREFECT) call-out. This is an option for anyone who wants non-private/event convos with her, if for some reason anyone wants to spend MORE time with her. If you are looking for information about the school’s mysteries, it's highly recommended you bring in the sheep or the mod journal instead!

Don’t forget your regains, and please submit your AC for week 0!

Week Zero

Despite everything that made yesterday feel like a particularly spectacular dream, everyone will wake up today back in their dorm rooms and their academy pajamas (providing they changed before bed). The artificial light is still bright and happy, but the reality of the school year is truly beginning to set in. This is the true first day of classes.

This week, the ground floor of the Academy is open to explore. All of the rooms that were inaccessible on Monday are open for the rest of the week, though students will still be kept firmly on the ground floor while remodeling continues on the upper levels.

Classes are also in session, with a basic schedule advertised on the board outside the cafeteria. In addition to basic academic subjects, the courses offered have a slight bent towards soft skills: home economics, etiquette, and public conduct are peppered in with math and science. The textbooks available for classes are handed out at the beginning of every sheep-taught lesson, and they encompass several levels of learning on the same subject to account for the different levels of students in attendance, as if someone created a series of textbooks in the nature of this video series. Strangely enough, there usually seems to be one fewer book than there are students, as if someone wasn't accounted for when books were ordered. The Lady Prefect can often be found in attendance at these classes, though she tends to disappear right after each session for her office hours. All in all, she's a distracted, even daydreamy student, and she may occasionally ask for someone else's notes. But she's quick to take roll and remind others of deadlines.

Regardless, classes only last a few hours a day, and students are otherwise encouraged to pursue their own extracurriculars and self-improvement, including via gym and music room activities. There's time to eat and train on your own schedule...or maybe you want to try making a dent in the large collection of Zoobooks in the reception area, feeding the strange vending machine in the school store some of your red coins, or convincing a Little Brother robot to tell you what really happened when one of them started getting mouthy yesterday at orientation.

Two future dates linger on the horizon, both fresh from the discussions on Monday: The Little Brother that was behaving so strangely promised a game of hide-and-seek on Wednesday, and the first main school event, the spelling bee and dance, is slated to take place on Saturday.

How will you prepare?

OOC Notes

Welcome to Week 0 proper! Events will unlock on the relevant day. Effective immediately, students are able to explore the week's locations for some more information about the school. If you'd like mod input on an investigation, please tag in the mods by writing (INVESTIGATION) in the subject line of your comment. If you'd like to speak with a Little Brother, please put (SHEEP) in your comment header. They're pretty wary of talking to students in secluded places, unfortunately, so while you can talk to them one-on-one, they don't offer a private contact post of their own.

The Prefect, however, will be available for her office hours. Nanami herself can be contacted in private via screened threads there. Given the general off-the-rails beginning of the semester, she is a bit distracted this week, but there's never any harm in reaching out!

WELCOME IN

ORIENTATION DAY

(CW: Slight undertones of experiences of unreality.)

It’s a bright Monday afternoon at the Academy. If the sun happened to be visible, it would certainly be shining. The new semester that everyone has been waiting for is about to begin!

All students wake up at exactly the same time–not that you’re aware of this. Even those who don’t normally sleep must have given into slumber at some point; they, too, will jolt awake with the strangest sensation that someone was just whispering in their ears. The beds that you’ll find yourself in are small and unfamiliar, and you wake up wearing a uniform that you don’t recognize even though it fits you like a glove. A red book with black cardstock lining the inner cover sits on each dorm nightstand. Opening the book reveals a strange code of conduct. The following pages list, in alphabetical order, all of the students.

Beyond the handbook and a change of familiar clothes in the closet, there’s little personalization to the rooms, and they lack most homey comforts. As unusual as these surroundings may seem, it’s impossible to shake the subtle, lingering excitement: It’s the first day of school! What a delightful occasion. Shouldn’t everyone want to make the most of the year? The subtle, unshakeable desire to achieve sits in the back of every mind like the story of a happy dream. Perhaps you brush your hair or wash your teeth before going on with your splendid day. Your reflection in your bathroom mirror looks a little off, did you forget to cut your hair before the big day? Perhaps you realize that your nails or claws have been trimmed recently. A little odd but you must have been excited for a brand new school year.

The world outside the dorm room holds a few more answers, but most things are still shrouded in mystery. Today, it seems that some rooms are still locked up tight from summer vacation. Beside the dormitory and hallways, only the cafeteria, kitchen, gym, playground, school store, and A/V room are accessible. Outside the cafeteria, a digital sign titled DAILY SCHEDULE offers little structure, save for one afternoon event: 5PM - PREFECT’S ORIENTATION - AUDITORIUM. There’s a lot of business to take care of on the first day of school, after all. No one can just be expected to start learning without the proper preparation.

With some time to kill before the promised orientation takes place–and, according to that rulebook, everyone is expected to attend–students have only each other and the various robot sheep for company. With such a small class, perhaps working together will bring you newfound and long-lasting partnerships. The robotic staff seem polite, at least, if a bit confused at the sudden flurry of non-scheduled activities.

How will you spend your first day before classes begin?

OOC NOTES

Welcome to the IC intro mingle for Round 2! Your characters have the afternoon to meet one another, get lunch at the school cafeteria, review their student handbooks, harass the Little Brother robots, and prepare for the upcoming school semester in this post. As promised, the Prefect will meet everyone in the auditorium at 5pm and will post their own introductory comment at that time (Eastern).

While we're sure that some people are dying to get a head start on investigating all of the mysteries of the school (we're excited to reveal them), please hold your investigation comment ideas until the weekly post goes up tomorrow. As all ground floor locations should be open for exploration at that time, we invite everyone to scratch all of your investigation itches on tomorrow's post at noon (also Eastern)! In lieu of investigation threads today, characters may speak to/question/accost the Little Brothers, who have an NPC thread down below.

Thank you, and have fun!
