WEEK THREE

Two weeks, two trials, four deaths.

One thing is certain: The monster in charge of this place knows enough about everyone here that he also knows what can drive some of them desperate enough to kill. He is powerful, and he has access, and he despises the whole student body. The face of the class' captor has been revealed now, in a sense, and the flames of his hatred for children have turned out to be very real.

At least, for now, the students of Ira Academy have one another to lean on. Some might have found the post-trial camaraderie a comfort. At least everyone hasn't given up hope. At least many students are still finding their anger and their will to fight back.

There are fewer pretenses this coming week. Classes proceed as normal; the school day still functions as normal, but the further everyone comes from that first fateful meeting with the man in charge of this school, the further away and more incomprehensible the thought that there was ever really a chance of going along with the original plan, completing reeducation, and staying safe.


...Of course, you could still try. There'd be nothing stopping you.

But you won't, will you? That's just how the students of Ira Academy are. You'll visit the third floor of the Academy, ascending the newly opened flight of stairs. Maybe you'll investigate one of the new rooms, dwarfed by the echoes that bounce of the uninvitingly tall ceilings. There's probably still something in this place on your side.

Welcome to Week 3! New locations have been added and the third floor is now open for exploration. The library is a very large space and more than one person can investigate it throughout the week if you'd like. If you want to investigate one of the Floor 3 rooms, please hit the mods with a ping in Discord and put INVESTIGATE in your subject line.

As a reminder, AC runs Sunday to Sunday concurrent with these posts and is collected based on the prior week; this means you have a whole week to get in AC for the week prior. AC for week 2 should be submitted no later than this coming Sunday. Remember to submit your regains, and sign up for a spot exploring this week's mystery if you want to!

MOTIVE

(CW: Starvation.)

[At lunch today, the usual fare is nowhere to be found. Students who try going back into the kitchen will find that Chef Brother isn’t at work and there are no hot or prepackaged meal options available. There actually seem to be no options, save for several flat, rectangular boxes stacked on the middle lunch table. It looks like everyone will be having a pizza party! Standing at the table is Nanami, her left arm wrapped in sports bandages and held awkwardly against her side. A robot sheep pushes the top box into her good arm; she takes the note from its lid.

Students who instead opt to visit the vending machines on the third floor in search of junk will find them out of order. Better go down to the cafeteria to see if any healthy options are on offer! Before they do, though, they’ll find notes pinned to each of the machines.

Struggling to open the note with one hand, Nanami holds it up with a frown and reads aloud. The Little Brothers will sign and/or broadcast the contents of the note to anyone if necessary–there’s also a copy attached to every single one of the pizza boxes, for anyone too impatient to wait.]

“Roses are red/ violets are blue/ good kids earn their keep/ that’s certainly not you.

Do you honestly think you’ve earned yourselves a party? I’m tired of wasting the school budget on feeding you. You’re eating us out of house and home! Until one of you kills another student and the trial is finished, there will be no food or drink on school grounds. Tighten up your belts, kiddos. If you get thirsty, there's always tap water.

As for Miss Kiryuu…” [She swallows.] “After getting herself put in detention, I just can’t tell if she’ll get soft and try to feed you brats, so she’ll be participating in this incentive with you. Waste not……..want not…”

((For clarity: Students do still have access to the taps to avoid dehydration, and any food items obtained through regains will be available. But that's it!))

[Oh. Huh. Miss Prefeck is back. But now that jerkface was saying they didn't get to eat...

Anya looks less than amused.]

Well, if Anya can drink, Anya is fine.

[Everyone else should be, too. She spent the rest of yesterday by herself thinking things over, and now she needs to focus on escape with everyone else...before someone else snaps...]

[He swallows hard, gritting his teeth. It takes a moment before he can come up with anything to say.]

This is bad. [Obviously.] We're going to need to conserve our energy as much as possible.

[Which sounds nice and logical, but rings hollow even to his own ears.]

Ah. The most barbaric of motives. Good to know you ran out of creative ideas after last week.

[Dylan, admittedly, is nervous about this motive. Taking away food is never a good thing, and it being gone until someone dies...bad.

But also...come on. Uncreative + annoying + stupid + L + ratio, or however that goes.]

[Adorabat managed to basically no-sell the first two motives. However, this one is actually causing her some concern. Upon realizing there isn't any food, Adorabat just stands there. whining a little bit and holding her belly with both wings.]

[ Ah... This... Is definitely gonna cause someone to snap. Also inhumane, someone would be suing over this if the whole kids murdering kids thing wasn't enough. The first thing that comes to mind is the last time he had to resort... To... ]

... I hate being the one to bring this up, but did anyone bother to keep the kibble that spews out of the vending machine sometimes?

[A few of you may have noticed that Jeanne is measured at some times, such as her description of her hostage's duty to sacrifice himself, and passionate at other times, like when she introduced the X-Laws for the first time before the rules of the game. This seems to be the latter.]

So it truly is your goal for us to suffer until we awaken our abilities. We will endure until Friday, and then you will grow bored, you foolish man! It was not the three days of starvation that killed Jesus on the cross! It was Judas who betrayed him!

[ Really regretting not eating more of that home-cooked breakfast when he had the chance. Valmont lunges across the table to grab one of the pizza boxes, because if by any chance those things do happen to contain their last bit of food for the week - it's his now, babey. ]

[ Ava rolls her eyes, trying to play tough even in the face of... this. ]

Oh good, too scared to show his face while he tells us all to die. Cool.

[ She does look a little nervous and furtive as she heads out tho!!! Hm this sucks actually!!!! ]

RETCONNED BREAKFAST FOR EVERYONE

[Yuta's actually going to go find Sonic first thing this morning! What could this possibly be about?]

Hey, can you help me with something?

[Breakfast time, open to all!]

[In a time prior to the motive in which everyone was - well probably still very unhappy with the situation but not quite as unhappy as they might be soon!

There's a couple signs taped to the walls indicating as much, but maybe the scent of food will guide students to the Cafeteria instead - because between Sonic and Yuta, they've managed to make scrambled eggs, French toast, and muffins for the student body this morning.

Feel free to make a "toplevel" for your character if they would like to partake in student-made breakfast.]

[Once the food's done, Yuta disappears briefly to invite Nanami - but after that he'll be around, helping himself to eggs and a muffin.

He looks kind of tired but he's gamely keeping on. Who needs sleep anyway!]

[HECK YEAH FRENCH TOAST. Eating it with both hands like a starving Parisian orphan.]

[Finally awake, the very clean and very bruised Prefect puts in a grudging appearance for breakfast--if only because she couldn't explain away her stomach growling the minute someone came to get her.

In a move that certainly will not present any problems later, she's picking at her French toast rather than fully digging in, but who can really blame her? She just got pulled out of a washing machine.

She's botherable!]

POST-MOTIVE MEETING LIKE WOAH

[Ok. This. This is gonna be bad. But this is something Sonic can at least manage, if nothing else.

Not even five minutes after the meeting, Sonic's got a sign hanging up in the cafeteria:

BRING ANY AND ALL FOOD YOU HAVE

And he also brings what he's gotten. Most of the fruit is gone, but he's still got some pomegranate seeds, some cat food, leftover food from breakfast, a bag of peanuts, and licorice.

It's not a lot, but it will have to suffice, and hopefully others will bring more. So, now he taps his feet, waiting for people to kind of calm down or come back in.

Once everyone's...in? He speaks.]

Ok, so first thing's first. Father is clearly goin' for broke, so if we want to live a little longer, we gotta go into survival mode. Got it? Starving sucks, and I speak from experience. But if we're smart we can handle it a little easier for as long as possible.

So first things first: we gotta ration what we have left. We need to know how much we have left overall so we can at least get through this together.

[He starts to pace.]

Secondly, we don't know how long it's gonna be before we get any food. It might be never, so we need to keep our options open. I'm not sayin' we do anything drastic right now, but everyone will need to keep in mind that if this doesn't end in a few days? We're gonna be in bad straits. So...

[He swallows, looking apologetically at Koishi before continuing.]

We also need to know what animals we've got. I know the idea of even hurtin' a pet sounds totally mean. But like I said, if Father is gonna keep food from us, we gotta know what options we have if we end up getting that desperate. Which I hope won't happen, but...Father's a jerk. And if that's the case, wild animals go before pets do. Understood?

[In other words, not out of the realm of possibility, but don't start eyeing the pets with a carving knife just yet.]

Thirdly. Don't do anything crazy. Save your strength. We're gonna need everything we got, so don't go runnin' [points to himself] or doin' anything nuts that would make you more hungry than you're gonna be.

[A deep, deep breath.]

Now, with that outta the way, Miss Pri-er, the Prefect is back, obviously. Anything she can tell us would be way past cool, or, y'know, if anyone else has info that they've learned recently. That would also be cool.

And with that, I'm done.

[Emma is paying attention, until Sonic brings up the animals. That's when she jumps up, hands flailing.]

None of you are eating Polly! Ever!

[Adorabat idly clutches her stomach with both wings.]

I guess this is also to stop any of us from training... But I think do know something that doesn't spend that much energy. How much do all of y'all know about meditating? Sonic, I know you're not that good at it, but if there's a time to do it, now would be it.

Rations and Stuff

I didn't really eat much of my stuff because I'd usually stuff myself with the cafeteria, so...

I don't like licorice, but I guess I don't have much of a choice here. I'm not exactly a fan of candy corn either, so, I guess we're all lucky I didn't eat too much by now... Coffee's probably redundant with the tap water still working, so...

[And he just so happened to let Owlbert out to hang out on his shoulder today. He cups a hand protectively over the little owl.]

...I don't think he even has that much meat on him. Besides - he belongs to Luz, and it's not like we can ask her.

[That just seems even more tragic?

Anyway, he brings AIR IN A CAN! and a Bag of Peanuts.]

Also... last night, Valmont, Emma, Kuro and I woke up. When we got out of bed, the washers in the laundry room were all running and flooding the school, so we went to figure out what was wrong and ended up pulling the Prefect out of one of them. There was... I think there was blood in the water?

[It was midnight, a lot was going on okay.]

We found this card. It's got another one of those visions if you touch it.

[Which he will indeed set out for people to touch if desired.]

[Dylan has got a lot more food than he thought he would out of the vending machine, and that includes:

-2x Cans of Curry Cola
-1x UniCORN still full of candy corn because how does a dog eat out of this thing he has to use plastic wrap just to keep from spilling it
-and 1x Ring Pop, which may or may not have fur on it somewhere, though at least it looks clean?]

Hunter should have the bag of coffee I got, if anyone else here wants it.

Also, we're...that's going to be the last last resort, right? E-e...doing anything with the animals from the machine?

[Like. He feels weird about seeing animals that don't talk, but. It wouldn't be any less horrifying to see any die.]

This is first and foremost.

[Jeanne brings out the previously discussed "kibble in yellow raincoat parcel".]

I found this as well... It feels like it might help somehow.

[She refers to a power ring. Then there's a bottle cap, a succulent plant that her hand curls around wistfully, and one curry cola! Regarding her past regains, the bag of peanuts was given to Anya back during movie night, while the onion and pomegranate as delicate produce were presented in a communal area and most likely consumed by now. Most notably, the new turtle is absent. She had always hoped to hide it away in her room so no crowd ever discovered its existence, and now suspected that emotions would be running stronger than ever.]

It is my intention to fast. Do not worry; my peers have done it for one week easily enough. Though the Principal has threatened us indefinitely, we should focus on the goal of getting to Friday. I will do whatever I can to assist the rest of you. Malnutrition is one thing; death another.
