WEEK 3
WEEK THREE
Two weeks, two trials, four deaths.
One thing is certain: The monster in charge of this place knows enough about everyone here that he also knows what can drive some of them desperate enough to kill. He is powerful, and he has access, and he despises the whole student body. The face of the class' captor has been revealed now, in a sense, and the flames of his hatred for children have turned out to be very real.
At least, for now, the students of Ira Academy have one another to lean on. Some might have found the post-trial camaraderie a comfort. At least everyone hasn't given up hope. At least many students are still finding their anger and their will to fight back.
There are fewer pretenses this coming week. Classes proceed as normal; the school day still functions as normal, but the further everyone comes from that first fateful meeting with the man in charge of this school, the further away and more incomprehensible the thought that there was ever really a chance of going along with the original plan, completing reeducation, and staying safe.
...Of course, you could still try. There'd be nothing stopping you.
But you won't, will you? That's just how the students of Ira Academy are. You'll visit the third floor of the Academy, ascending the newly opened flight of stairs. Maybe you'll investigate one of the new rooms, dwarfed by the echoes that bounce of the uninvitingly tall ceilings. There's probably still something in this place on your side.
Will you work together, or will you grow further apart?

OOC NOTES
Welcome to Week 3! New locations have been added and the third floor is now open for exploration. The library is a very large space and more than one person can investigate it throughout the week if you'd like. If you want to investigate one of the Floor 3 rooms, please hit the mods with a ping in Discord and put INVESTIGATE in your subject line.
As a reminder, AC runs Sunday to Sunday concurrent with these posts and is collected based on the prior week; this means you have a whole week to get in AC for the week prior. AC for week 2 should be submitted no later than this coming Sunday. Remember to submit your regains, and sign up for a spot exploring this week's mystery if you want to!

SUNDAY
CHURCH...?
Peace be with you...!
[There is a combination of dampness and dryness about Jeanne that suggests she has barely slept, Friday night or Saturday. She glides out in her Sunday best skirts. If her body will not let her fall down, perhaps her friends will hold us up? She got all two-dozen hula hoop seats this time for some reason... More pieces of paper than last time, too...]
Let us begin with the liturgy of the word and of the eucharist. Then I would like to do something a little different.
[She reads from the Bible in one hand and passes out Ritz crackers with the other, trying to get it done before Carrie reaches the end of her assigned tune on the glockenspiel. It's as if she thinks some latecomers might join them in time to not have to see this part.]
Jesus answered, "Very truly I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit. [...] For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed. But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God."
[So what now...? What is she doing after the box of crackers has been put away...?]
Thomasin had a hard life as a Puritan. Having more freedom here in some ways, she came to think that only God knew our fates, so brothers and sisters of any creed might go to heaven or to hell. In light of this... I would like us... to at least remember everyone.
El Señor es mi luz ⋅ If The Path I Travel ⋅ Be Thou My Vision ⋅ On Eagle's Wings
[She is completely exhausted by the time this is over, trying to disguise the crumpling of her legs as a humble bow. Murmured to herself:] I do not have anything to drink... but perhaps that is for the best in this place...

It's only once Jeanne finishes her recitation that Kuro approaches. She stands from her own makeshift seat—one of the swings, which has remained politely still this entire time—and walks to where Jeanne has buckled to the ground. Kuro sits with her, flopping down on the blacktop at her side. ]
Is this how your sermons usually end?

(He's still relieved not to be on percussion duty, though.)
Anyway, as luck would have it, he's both awake enough and paying enough attention to Jeanne that even he notices how shaky her footing is getting by the end. Once the singing's over, he gets to his own feet, ready to loiter like he usually does until Jeanne's done cleaning. But... at this point, it's really not looking like a sure thing that she'll even be able to start. Hhhhhh.
Valmont looks around. Takes a hesitant step toward Jeanne. Clears his throat. He's really not sure what he's doing right now. ]

Investigation & Open To All
[After returning to Jeanne's weird meetings for the week, Adorabat goes out and explores. And what better place to investigate than this maze? She lands at the entrance to the labyrinth, taking in the sights. It would be easier if she flew, but isn't this place called "Walking"?]
Playground
[Adorabat is perched upon the top of the jungle gym, holding Simon Norwell out beside her. She's staring out into the "abyss" of the outside. When you approach, she'll notice and wiggle Simon a little, speaking in an imitation of a male voice.]
Get lost, Adorabat doesn't want to talk to you!
Simon, shut up! Be nice!
[She then turns to you.]
Hi there, sorry about that. What's up?
Laundry Room
[As you pass by the laundry room, you may be able to smell a strong smell of soap emanating from the room along with a small bit of bubbles poking out from the door. Entering, you see the room is COVERED in soapy bubbles, and a familiar blue bat on the washing machine fiddling with the knobs in a panic. She spots and and immediately rushes over to you, gripping both sides of your face.]

INVESTIGATION
[He does have some book smarts, so might as well start here. He'll be looking over the whole room to see if there's anything that sticks out first, checking under pillows and on the shelves
because you never know when there's going to be dried blood somewhere.][Kitchen]
[After retrieving a cook book, he can be found here flipping through the pages trying to find something nice and simple to start off with.]
It can't be that hard. Wansuke did it all the time.
[Library - non-investigation]
[And after some cooking adventures and/or disasters, he'll head back to the library again, but this time he's picking up some books on anatomy and poring over those.]

MYSTERY 4: Tempest Inside
Plaster bends and breaks just slightly to leave a hairline crack. The scent of warm water comes to your nose as you rise to your feet. Before you reach your door to see just what was happening, a small indistinct thought comes to you. It’s not your voice but it feels like it’s correct.
...laundry…
After you open the door, several other students do so, too. Maybe it’s a gut feeling but this might be a bad night.]
((OOC: As with the previous mysteries this is a locked event. You may talk about the events after they happen, of course, but trying to wake up the other students isn’t allowed. If they try they’ll get a sensation that they just don’t have the time to spare. What happens to your belongings after the mystery is up to you! We don’t want to make that decision for you. While you may respond to the event individually to put in your reactions since this an investigation, we prefer that you stick together for the duration. After everyone has put in a reaction to the mystery we will set up a comment order to go on.))

INVESTIGATION and open to all
[Well. This looks more like it. Not that he likes it, but. This is more what he expects from a villain.
He's up early. Before even going to the kitchen, he goes here. He's going to find something here. Surely he will, right?]
Kitchen
[He comes here later. He needs to eat, after all, for what he's about to attempt. Of course, if someone else comes in, he'll be more than happy to make something for them for breakfast or lunch. He'll be mumbling a bit as he goes about, though.]
Library
[TIME TO RAID.
You'll find him on the highest shelves, tossing books into a pile down below. Rather surprisingly, he's managing to toss them into a neat pile. Probably comes with the territory of him being so cool. And probably also just deft with his fingers so the books don't, like, fly and break. He seems used to stacking things, at least, from afar.]

INVESTIGATION
[After class and lunch, Jeanne seems to have regained a small amount of energy that she can then apply to one of her most sacred duties as an Ira Academy student: Vending machine rolls and subsequent safety containment.]
If this is dye, then I will have to just bleach them white all over again... Perhaps this is one of the cards Koishi was talking about...? No, we do not need two planetaria... I know that she said we can choose our own gender roles, but I really think this will not be necessary for me right now...
[The machine shoots kibble at her for the first time but she has already been given a yellow raincoat to shield herself with! The garment can be tied into a makeshift parcel. Nice. Now to continue.]
What a pretty ring. Such a shame it lacks a promise to wear it for.
[The succulent plant, nutcracker doll, and Budegg virtual pet also seem to have caught her fancy. Less so the weapons... Well, one last—]
Anything but this.
[Yet another turtle.]
vending machine
[It's almost an hour later that she's actually reached the third floor and that's enough time for a growing girl to get a little peckish. The candies in the vending machine are blatantly forbidden fruit from her perspective. Her reflection on the glass has stars in its eyes.]
It is only one item, so that is the opposite of gluttonous... But that makes the choice very difficult...
Library (Investigation)
[Seems that Sonic is enjoying the ladder experience, maybe she'll say hi to him when she has the chance, but she came up here still wearing the skirted uniform so she'll be staying low. She'll explore important things as they come up but first things first. What are this library's books on religion, eh? She values them for her own purposes as well as being interested from the perspective that this place is literally influenced by Hell.]
Library (open)
I have progressed in my studies!
[As Jeanne mentioned back when classes were the main activity to worry about, she has been hoping for the opportunity to study written Japanese and she has received it. Join her! Praise her! Nudge her towards other topics too!
...that is hard work though so you can also find her curled up on the nap pillows with Claudine at School. An actual French book like A Little Princess! Yes!]

CAT POSTING
[Fret has finally acquired a decent amount of gacha currency, and is giving it a go to see if he can make any more additions to his secret creation. The arrow and broken swords are somewhat close to the mark but not quite, so he keeps trying, dud items coming out one by one (though he still saves them), until finally... he gets a creature of his own! The tiny tuxedo kitten is asleep at first, and puzzlingly damp - Fret does tilt his head in curiosity over that, because how could anything leak into a capsule? But this is something he better not think about, like how it could hold any of these things in the first place!! For now he just cradles the little guy in one arm toward his chest, where the kitten winds up brushing against his favored gray scarf and stirring mildly as its little claws grip into it. Aww. But he has one more coin, and it's... wow, some kind of toy gun, but clearly there's more to it than meets the eye. This could really be a find!
Before he can examine it too much, though, the tug at his clothes gets stronger and he looks down to see the tuxedo has opened its big blue watery eyes. They are saucer-wide as they stare up at the human face looking back down at it, and in the next instance the kitten wiggles and leaps from his grasp. Mewing and mewing, uncertain and distressed, it runs away at top speed!]
Whoa, whoa, whoa! Don't go over-!
[Any number of bad things could happen to a kitten loose in a death academy! It could run into a monster or get brainwashed! It could trigger Hunter's dogbrain!! Or... like... the actual dogs! There's only one thing to do now... Catch! That! Kitty!]
CHASE
[Fret is in the middle of trying to find the kitten. The gun is hanging around his shoulder which is probably questionable but he actually has no idea it shoots nets, and would he use it if he did? Probably not! It's literally only there because of how fast this all happened. Regardless, before his target is spotted, he could really be hunting anything. That is, before he tries to recruit YOU.]
Hey, you seen a little black and white kitty? It just booked it as soon as I rolled it!
[And at that moment, a glimpse of the kitty is caught!! Hopefully not being chased by something other than Fret, but it is definitely still in the running, and will find another hiding place if they're not quick about it. Better hope it doesn't go all the way out to the playground and try to slip the fence... oops, it's definitely doing that at some point.]
A Powerful Name
[After all of the shenanigans, Fret finally came to his senses and lured the poor animal out of hiding with something to eat. It's mewing again and purring as it feasts from atop a cafeteria table, finally feeling a little more secure as it's accepted this teen boy is going to watch its back after all. Fret is just giving the occasional idle scritch and talking to the cat a little fondly considering he wasted a good deal of the day running around after it. His monster project is an afterthought by this point.]
Man, you put up a really good chase. It's almost like when we were hunting for "Neku"... you're even kind of the right colors.
[Well, that didn't actually turn out to be Neku in the end, but the clothes still match his mental image. He figures the real Neku had to have dressed the same way if everyone got so easily confused by him.]
Whaddya think, little guy? Wanna be named after a Legendary Player who shook up the game? [He puts his arms on the table, leaning his head into it as he looks over, a little more soberly.] ...Maybe it'd bring us some luck we need...
[The cat meows, more out of thanks for the food than anything. Fret's brief melancholy disappears as he gets a stupid grin. He is seriously about to name this kitten Neku if no one gives him any better ideas.]

TUESDAY
MOTIVE
[At lunch today, the usual fare is nowhere to be found. Students who try going back into the kitchen will find that Chef Brother isn’t at work and there are no hot or prepackaged meal options available. There actually seem to be no options, save for several flat, rectangular boxes stacked on the middle lunch table. It looks like everyone will be having a pizza party! Standing at the table is Nanami, her left arm wrapped in sports bandages and held awkwardly against her side. A robot sheep pushes the top box into her good arm; she takes the note from its lid.
Students who instead opt to visit the vending machines on the third floor in search of junk will find them out of order. Better go down to the cafeteria to see if any healthy options are on offer! Before they do, though, they’ll find notes pinned to each of the machines.
Struggling to open the note with one hand, Nanami holds it up with a frown and reads aloud. The Little Brothers will sign and/or broadcast the contents of the note to anyone if necessary–there’s also a copy attached to every single one of the pizza boxes, for anyone too impatient to wait.]
“Roses are red/ violets are blue/ good kids earn their keep/ that’s certainly not you.
Do you honestly think you’ve earned yourselves a party? I’m tired of wasting the school budget on feeding you. You’re eating us out of house and home! Until one of you kills another student and the trial is finished, there will be no food or drink on school grounds. Tighten up your belts, kiddos. If you get thirsty, there's always tap water.
As for Miss Kiryuu…” [She swallows.] “After getting herself put in detention, I just can’t tell if she’ll get soft and try to feed you brats, so she’ll be participating in this incentive with you. Waste not……..want not…”
((For clarity: Students do still have access to the taps to avoid dehydration, and any food items obtained through regains will be available. But that's it!))

RETCONNED BREAKFAST FOR EVERYONE
[Yuta's actually going to go find Sonic first thing this morning! What could this possibly be about?]
Hey, can you help me with something?
[Breakfast time, open to all!]
[In a time prior to the motive in which everyone was - well probably still very unhappy with the situation but not quite as unhappy as they might be soon!
There's a couple signs taped to the walls indicating as much, but maybe the scent of food will guide students to the Cafeteria instead - because between Sonic and Yuta, they've managed to make scrambled eggs, French toast, and muffins for the student body this morning.
Feel free to make a "toplevel" for your character if they would like to partake in student-made breakfast.]

POST-MOTIVE MEETING LIKE WOAH
Not even five minutes after the meeting, Sonic's got a sign hanging up in the cafeteria:
RATION AND INTEL MEETING NOW
BRING ANY AND ALL FOOD YOU HAVE
And he also brings what he's gotten. Most of the fruit is gone, but he's still got some pomegranate seeds, some cat food, leftover food from breakfast, a bag of peanuts, and licorice.
It's not a lot, but it will have to suffice, and hopefully others will bring more. So, now he taps his feet, waiting for people to kind of calm down or come back in.
Once everyone's...in? He speaks.]
Ok, so first thing's first. Father is clearly goin' for broke, so if we want to live a little longer, we gotta go into survival mode. Got it? Starving sucks, and I speak from experience. But if we're smart we can handle it a little easier for as long as possible.
So first things first: we gotta ration what we have left. We need to know how much we have left overall so we can at least get through this together.
[He starts to pace.]
Secondly, we don't know how long it's gonna be before we get any food. It might be never, so we need to keep our options open. I'm not sayin' we do anything drastic right now, but everyone will need to keep in mind that if this doesn't end in a few days? We're gonna be in bad straits. So...
[He swallows, looking apologetically at Koishi before continuing.]
We also need to know what animals we've got. I know the idea of even hurtin' a pet sounds totally mean. But like I said, if Father is gonna keep food from us, we gotta know what options we have if we end up getting that desperate. Which I hope won't happen, but...Father's a jerk. And if that's the case, wild animals go before pets do. Understood?
[In other words, not out of the realm of possibility, but don't start eyeing the pets with a carving knife just yet.]
Thirdly. Don't do anything crazy. Save your strength. We're gonna need everything we got, so don't go runnin' [points to himself] or doin' anything nuts that would make you more hungry than you're gonna be.
[A deep, deep breath.]
Now, with that outta the way, Miss Pri-er, the Prefect is back, obviously. Anything she can tell us would be way past cool, or, y'know, if anyone else has info that they've learned recently. That would also be cool.
And with that, I'm done.

WEDNESDAY
no subject
[Adorabat had went to the school store in order to try and get some food. She used a few more coins than she usually did, but did not, in fact, get the food she was hoping to get. Now, she has a plethora of objects sitting around her. Adorabat looks over them sadly, grabs a dark angel wing and begins lightly gnawing on it idly.
Uh... care to help her?]
Reception
[Meditation. It was the one thing she knew how to do whuch required the least amount of energy. Sure, she could find other ways to entertain herself, but actually playing or painting or training could use up way too much energy for this week's motive. So, instead, she chooses to meditate. She's encouraged other people to attempt to meditate alongside with her and would be willing to try to teach others how to if they don't know how.]
So Hungry
[Still, in the reception, it may be getting a bit late in the day. Though... what you see is not a meditating Adorabat, but one clutching her stomach, laying on her side, and drooling on the floor. She's not asleep, but she's also not moving.
This must be really hard on her.]
