WEEK ONE

This week, students at Ira Academy must return to class with their memories of the weekend hanging over them. The Principal is watching now, and he dislikes children even more than his initial draconian idea of education led everyone to believe. The rules revision is probably at the forefront of most people’s minds, along with the sinking paranoia of being monitored much more closely and more severely reprimanded for stepping out of line. This very empty academy building suddenly feels all the more claustrophobic. All students now have the option to commit murder and be freed from this school. Less than a week ago, you were teaching yourself to be friends with some of your fellow classmates. Will things remain that way, or will someone reveal themselves to be willing to take a life to escape?

But just because murder’s on the table doesn’t mean that your studies are off of it, and the Little Brothers are still here to helpfully encourage all students to complete their coursework. Despite being shepherded away at the end of the school dance announcement last night, this week the Prefect will be back for her office hours and, thankfully, less fixated on pulling off a successful weekend spelling bee and social event. Less thankfully, it seems she believes that completing your re-education as originally planned is the correct course of action. You’d do well to remember, perhaps, that right now your success reflects ultimately on her. Students who prefer to see how their fellow school denizen and prisoner-in-spirit can also sneak into the music room whenever it’s unoccupied to converse with A.

To that end, it also looks like someone’s posted a “Tutors and Study Groups” sign-up sheet on the hallway walls outside the A/V room. There are illustrated descriptions next to it, so even someone who doesn’t understand the writing should be able to glean its purpose. This seems like a good way for people who are interested in working together or helping one another with anything involved in school life. Students may make use of this resource as they will.

Finally, at the end of the hallway near the music room, a sliding wall has receded as if it was never there in the first place, revealing an unexplored area on this floor.. Hmm, what could be up there?

This is an option for anyone who wants non-private/event convos with her, if for some reason anyone wants to spend MORE time with her. If you are looking for information about the school’s mysteries, it's highly recommended you bring in the sheep or the mod journal instead!

((This thread is a church containment zone. Jeanne is only occupied with this for about an hour, so other Sunday threads can be had upon request, I really will do a full-sized starter for you if required, but the goal is for this thread to contain all of the church and only church. Also this is taking place at noon so everything is cleaned up well before Sonic's meeting.))

Peace be with you.

[Jeanne is prompting y'all to say "and also with you" because she is from 2001. (Unbeknownst to her, she's also not supposed to say that as an emergency non-ordained minister, but that can just be a sin she has committed in what she has failed to do.) She has taken over the blacktop with hula hoops to provide some place for people to sit, and her supplies lined up against the outside of the shed. There is one handwritten guide to the mass. There are a lot of short parts that comprise the mass, like "glory to god in the highest" and "Christ has died, Christ has risen, Christ will come again". However, they are not doing hymns or homily today, so it will only take about fifteen minutes.]

Would anyone like to do the first reading or the second reading?

[There is about half as many sentences in the written version because she could not remember it all. Maybe someone else will have their memory jogged! The real reason Fret is here. Really she wanted to read the gospel though.]

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them. He said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you."

[She looks at the congregation fondly for a moment.]

He said that you must be like a little child to enter the kingdom of heaven.

[Even more finnicky little chants follow this but now it's time for the good part. Yasu's big moment ringing the triangle in the background for the unveiling of the Eucharist! Opening one box of round crackers! Jeanne is going to put them in your mouth, because that's how she was raised to eat through opening the iron maiden's face plate. Even more recitations go here but it leads up to this one for dismissal.]

Some stuff, a meeting and some SHEEP

[Ok, time to...figure some stuff out. He's the leader of the Freedom Fighters, so he may as well.

First things first, he's looking for a sheep.]

Hey, you! Sheep dude! You got a moment?

[Later on, he's in the classroom and making a sign with the word MEETING on it. Because we clearly need another one. In fact, he slides a note under the dormitory doors to make the point:]

MEETING 3PM I GOT SNACKS

[Which he does, obviously. Some drinks, some food, and of course the food includes some good ol' chili dogs. When wouldn't Sonic include chili dogs? IMPOSSIBLE.





Later on that evening, he's in the playground, chilling. Waiting. He's got a backpack on as he taps his foot on the ground, arms crossed behind his back as he leans against the shed.]

Investigation

[ First thing Hunter does after yet another restless night is make his way to the school store for a notebook, a spare pen, and... He's looking for a cord for the camera collar in his hand, but the quality here is terrible. ]

... [ Not that he's really in the mood to complain right this second. He's got way too much on his mind right now.

He slips into his room for a bit. He's awfully quiet, you're free to knock on his door if you feel like checking on him, but after a few minutes he comes out to slip a note under Dylan's door. ]

Man, I really hope dogs can read...

[ There's a bit of time to kill before Sonic's meeting. He was planning on going to the music room or something, but he noticed the stairwell at the end of the hall. Weird, he didn't remember it being there before.

Going up leads him to the lounge... Not much here, but he may as well get a closer look. Starting with that fishtank that doesn't have any fish in it. Why would anyone have a fishtank and not put fish in it? ]

CLOSED TO DYLAN (CW: Child abuse/endangerment/possible neglect, implication of animal abuse)

[ The note Hunter slid under Dylan's door is... Well, he tried to write as clearly as possible, but it's a bit shaky. Probably shouldn't be much of a surprise when it reads like this: ]

Hey Dylan,

You know how pushy and shouty that principal turned out to be? He reminded me of how Great Aunt Cruella would shout at me over the phone whenever she got impatient or I screwed up doing a favor for her. Which has been happening a lot more lately, ever since I got out of that shipping crate I was trapped in for six months. You'd honestly think she'd at least be happy I managed to survive, but no! No, the first thing she asks me about when I called her was something along the lines of "where's my fur coat, you useless snowflake?" Didn't even bother to go look for me while I was stuck in that dark, lonely box, not even once! And you know the worst part? If the principal was right, then I'm pretty sure the only person who would want to send me here is the very woman I wanted to impress.

Why am I telling you all this?

Because I owe you a HUGE apology for everything I've done.

All I wanted was her attention. Just some decent family time from literally the only other person I could call family. I have no idea where my parents have been for the past few years, my grandparents are dead, I don't know how many cousins I have that would even associate themselves with me... Hell, Cruella literally threatened to disown me before I got the idea for #sniffproof (the one with the bus and the hazmat suit). Cuddles was literally the closest friend I have, and I think even he's starting to get annoyed by me. What else could I do than try to get on Cruella's good side?

If you couldn't tell already, I've come to realize I made some HUGE mistakes. I don't know if I can really make it up to your family at this point, but I think I can offer you a peace treaty:

We drop the dog-napping thing, we agree not to kill each other, and if we can make it back home in one piece I'll do anything I can to get my great aunt away from your family. With any luck, I might be able to get the police involved and have her arrested for something. Should keep her out of your hair for a few years, at least.

P.S. Can you please tell me what this whole grudge is about? All I got from my aunt and some outside research was a famous musician who adopted a bunch of dalmatians and the accident that totaled my aunt's old car.

[ Thomasin, despite her words, does come to the playground and observe church. She does not accept communion; the Lord's supper is meant only to be taken once or twice a year. She does not pray out loud, and she also does not do a reading, for obvious reasons! But she sits quietly, her eyes sometimes on Jeanne but most often fixed on the great grey blank of a sky, and either prays or thinks very, very hard.

This is the great evil every adult she knows has loathed with all their souls. It was the closeness of the King's church to this rank popery that sent them travelling across the ocean; it was the closeness of the New World's church to the King's that had them banished from the plantation. But in the end, her knowledge of what the church of Rome entails has little to do with what factually happens, and everything to do with the denunciations she's heard since she could comprehend at all. To see it, even in an approximation without a priest of any kind...

It is strange. It differs greatly from the true religion, of course, and there is more ritual, more repetition, but it does not repel her as it should. Perhaps in a great church, full of false idols and painted saints, the idea would turn her stomach more. It is still a sign of her spiritual incontinence, that she would come in the first place, but it is no matter.

After the gathering breaks up, she sticks around for a little while. When she thinks she is alone, she ventures a quiet prayer of her own, standing by the fence with her hands knotted tightly together. ]

Our Father which art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done even in earth, as it is in Heaven...

[ And so on and so forth! It sounds like she's said this iteration of the Lord's prayer a thousand times, because she has, but there's a certain waver in her voice. It is almost as though, after going to mass, she expects herself to fail the recitation. ]

[ Thomasin shows up a bit late, half because she was saying prayers by herself on the playground, half because she still can't fuckin read! But she gets that if there's a sign on a door, it either means she should go in the room or definitely not go in the room. After quietly cracking the classroom door and peering inside, the appropriate option becomes clear. ]

[Emma's going to take a look at those new Highlights magazines. She's pretty sure they occasionally have fictional stories in them-do these also have those? Either way she's probably going to pass some time reading a few.

She also takes a look at the first-aid station, simply looking over the supplies in general, and looking a little bit relieved-though not by much.

Polly isn't always by her side, but the pig can be found in various places around the school as well, occasionally diving into a spot and coming out with vegetables in her mouth that she proceeds to chew on happily.]

[Emma figures this is probably a good idea. She settles down somewhere near the front of the room, adjusting her seat so that she can read everyone's lips easiest.]

I was thinking I needed to let everyone know about their sign names anyways.

After everything-everything-he wanted to talk? Like it was something they could discuss? Like it wasn't exactly what it was?

But he didn't shred it. Not immediately, at least. He read it through, from the talk about Hunter's personal life all the way to the questions about a wrecked car (What?)

And...you know what? Dylan had a piece to say, and Hunter was going to hear it.

He wasn't going to risk being cornered. So he goes to the music room, keeping a watchful eye as he looks for the platinum blonde boy.]
