Week Zero

Despite everything that made yesterday feel like a particularly spectacular dream, everyone will wake up today back in their dorm rooms and their academy pajamas (providing they changed before bed). The artificial light is still bright and happy, but the reality of the school year is truly beginning to set in. This is the true first day of classes.

This week, the ground floor of the Academy is open to explore. All of the rooms that were inaccessible on Monday are open for the rest of the week, though students will still be kept firmly on the ground floor while remodeling continues on the upper levels.

Classes are also in session, with a basic schedule advertised on the board outside the cafeteria. In addition to basic academic subjects, the courses offered have a slight bent towards soft skills: home economics, etiquette, and public conduct are peppered in with math and science. The textbooks available for classes are handed out at the beginning of every sheep-taught lesson, and they encompass several levels of learning on the same subject to account for the different levels of students in attendance, as if someone created a series of textbooks in the nature of this video series. Strangely enough, there usually seems to be one fewer book than there are students, as if someone wasn't accounted for when books were ordered. The Lady Prefect can often be found in attendance at these classes, though she tends to disappear right after each session for her office hours. All in all, she's a distracted, even daydreamy student, and she may occasionally ask for someone else's notes. But she's quick to take roll and remind others of deadlines.

Regardless, classes only last a few hours a day, and students are otherwise encouraged to pursue their own extracurriculars and self-improvement, including via gym and music room activities. There's time to eat and train on your own schedule...or maybe you want to try making a dent in the large collection of Zoobooks in the reception area, feeding the strange vending machine in the school store some of your red coins, or convincing a Little Brother robot to tell you what really happened when one of them started getting mouthy yesterday at orientation.

Two future dates linger on the horizon, both fresh from the discussions on Monday: The Little Brother that was behaving so strangely promised a game of hide-and-seek on Wednesday, and the first main school event, the spelling bee and dance, is slated to take place on Saturday.

Welcome to Week 0 proper! Events will unlock on the relevant day. Effective immediately, students are able to explore the week's locations for some more information about the school. If you'd like to speak with a Little Brother, please put (SHEEP) in your comment header. They're pretty wary of talking to students in secluded places, unfortunately, so while you can talk to them one-on-one, they don't offer a private contact post of their own.

The Prefect, however, will be available for her office hours. Nanami herself can be contacted in private via screened threads there. Given the general off-the-rails beginning of the semester, she is a bit distracted this week, but there's never any harm in reaching out!

<sub>[Well, that was a banger inauguration day, totally not exhausted by the whole thing that he was willing to sleep a whole two hours after everyone else had awakened if not for the alarm, but at least he was quick enough to shake off the sleepies and make his way to the Cafeteria to hydrate and fill up on water and buttered toast.]

That is all! _{[Before standing up on top of the jungle gym, jumping off to the side, and landing pretty well before he accidentally tripped on his own ankle as he walked away.]} IGNORE THAT!

YES!!! YEEEEEEEEEEESSS!!! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! _{[He came riding out of the supply closet on a butt scooter, laughing like a madman as he scooted himself through the whole area. At least he was having fun?]}

Dude... You're so lucky no one has their cell phones here. That would have gone viral in like... Ten minutes. Tops.

... _{[He looks more desperate than angry now.]} Okay, I'm going to stop fronting, this place sucks, pretending I'm a king feels empty, and the most fun thing here I can think of is doing dangerous swing tricks or setting up a 1-on-1 elimination tournament at the monkey bars.

[ Somehow he expected a bit more defensiveness from Dewey, but hey. At least the duck's realistic about it. ]

Sonic and I climbed over the fence yesterday. The sheep brought us back in, though.

It was probably for the best.

The sky changes completely on the other side. It's red, and sunless. There isn't actually a cliff, but a dirt road, filled with broken glass, all over.

The worst part is there's... things out there. You can't see them, but they're all staring at you, with malicious intent.

Whatever this Closetland is, it's a horrible, horrible place.

[ He's... Trying to remain cool about it, but there's a good reason he hadn't gotten enough sleep last night. And Closetland is part of it. ]

Eesh... [ Shoving his hand in his pocket as he just stares at the haze... Before turning back to Dewey. ]

So. Like. On a scale of 1 to 10. How likely is this is it for the school to be designed for making us tastier to whatever's out there? [ He gestures at the gate. Totally not freaked out, no. Ignore the worried expression please. ]

I don't think they want to feed us. The sheep didn't just jump the fence to pull us back in, theyturned into some kinda big robot that could fit Sonic and I in the palm of their hand just to bring us back in. Not even threatening us, but just holding their palm out to carry us back in.

I don't think they'd be that drastic only to not threaten us if they wanted us to just die in the end. If I had a theory, I think the sheep are afraid of what's out there too.

I'm open to being proven wrong, but... that's what I think. _{[Even in the presence of this school, he doesn't seem to be thinking the worst of the sheep.]}

Hunter glances around for a moment before leaning closer to Dewey. ]

You want my hot take? I'm starting to wonder if the sheep used to be normal kids like us! [ in a manner of speaking of course ] Why else would one of them suddenly start acting up and warn us about Closetland?

[ Thomasin, who didn't really look into the gym on Monday and is checking it out now, is staring at the wall pads and gently touching her fingers to the material when this happens. She yelps, leaps forward into the wall pad, pushes off it with her hands, whips around, and then... well okay, she saw Dewey at the introduction to Miss Prefect, plus his face in the handbook, so she's not completely losing her shit, but the sight of an anthropomorphic duck wheeling his teeny tiny self around still merits a double take! ]

Hey, you! Thomasin, right? _{[He read the handbook and saw her at the induction too! He was now scooting towards her too.]} You should try riding one of these! This is like, the best part of gym class ever! It works out your legs or something but more importantly, it's super fun! Just watch your fingers!

Well, yeah, it's not always as fun as riding butt scooters, though. Sometimes it's just running around in circles. Sometimes it's doing push-ups. Sometimes it's dodgeball.

[ She is trying so hard to picture what any of these things would entail and coming up so very short. ]

To what purpose?

It's like, "something something the youth must be healthy" or "something something obesity epidemic" or whatever. It's a modern "problem" that they invented way after your time in order to justify torturing children with excess exercise, I think.

[ She's started to gather that people are from the far-flung future, but even then, kids are still working the fields and stuff, right? Even duck kids? ]

[Jeanne is in the gym in the gym clothes. They encouraged her to branch out after class so here she is. She's standing there in the manner of an extremely conventionally feminine person thinking, "really? Must I be a gray potato today of all days? Am I sure?". Dewey seems to be a good example. She's watching him for a while and is also trying to adjust to the talking duck thing. Well, that actually makes sense to her, but she expected a talking animal, not a Funny Animal. That's a legitimate anthropological term although she doesn't know that. Look it up. She thinks it in the sense that he's a clown. ...hm.]

You never used a butt scooter before, uh... Jeanne, right? It's supposed to exercise your legs by using them to scoot along the ground, but they're the most fun gym class item in the world!

[She takes in the entire scene rather skeptically. It's not so much that his wing-arms and legs don't reach the ground. It's comparing him to herself, a humanoid.]

She sets the scooter on the ground and kneels upon its shaky surface.]

[Luz is. Here. In person if not emotionally. She drifts through the gym doors as though she was built just to wander the halls of this strange academy. Always on the hunt for clues as to how to return home.

...But it does warm her heart a little to see butt scooting. It is, ironically, one of the least strange things she has seen here thus far.]
