WEEK ONE

This week, students at Ira Academy must return to class with their memories of the weekend hanging over them. The Principal is watching now, and he dislikes children even more than his initial draconian idea of education led everyone to believe. The rules revision is probably at the forefront of most people’s minds, along with the sinking paranoia of being monitored much more closely and more severely reprimanded for stepping out of line. This very empty academy building suddenly feels all the more claustrophobic. All students now have the option to commit murder and be freed from this school. Less than a week ago, you were teaching yourself to be friends with some of your fellow classmates. Will things remain that way, or will someone reveal themselves to be willing to take a life to escape?

But just because murder’s on the table doesn’t mean that your studies are off of it, and the Little Brothers are still here to helpfully encourage all students to complete their coursework. Despite being shepherded away at the end of the school dance announcement last night, this week the Prefect will be back for her office hours and, thankfully, less fixated on pulling off a successful weekend spelling bee and social event. Less thankfully, it seems she believes that completing your re-education as originally planned is the correct course of action. You’d do well to remember, perhaps, that right now your success reflects ultimately on her. Students who prefer to see how their fellow school denizen and prisoner-in-spirit can also sneak into the music room whenever it’s unoccupied to converse with A.

To that end, it also looks like someone’s posted a “Tutors and Study Groups” sign-up sheet on the hallway walls outside the A/V room. There are illustrated descriptions next to it, so even someone who doesn’t understand the writing should be able to glean its purpose. This seems like a good way for people who are interested in working together or helping one another with anything involved in school life. Students may make use of this resource as they will.

Finally, at the end of the hallway near the music room, a sliding wall has receded as if it was never there in the first place, revealing an unexplored area on this floor.. Hmm, what could be up there?

Welcome to Week 1! As with last week, if you have anything you’d like to investigate, you can bring mod responses in by pinging (INVESTIGATION) in your subject line. (SHEEP) for the Little Brothers. Unlike last week, Nanami can also be invited to participate in your threads with a (PREFECT) call-out. This is an option for anyone who wants non-private/event convos with her, if for some reason anyone wants to spend MORE time with her. If you are looking for information about the school’s mysteries, it's highly recommended you bring in the sheep or the mod journal instead!

Ah - yes, I suppose if you've no other pressing obligations, you could serve our lunch as well. Come along.

[ This to Yasu, of course, or at least in Yasu's direction. She really is remarkably efficient. He should have made his parents hire him his own kid-size maid years ago. ]

Shall we, Jeanne?

[ Turning back towards her, he presents his elbow for Jeanne to take, like he's seen his father do for his mother at fancy occasions. Possibly of note, this is the first time he's used another student's first name (though, to be fair, Jeanne really doesn't... have any others). ]

Of course, Miss Jeanne, Mister Valmont.

[Yasu follows behind Valmont and Jeanne with her hands clasped in front of her, fading into the background. What was it that he always said, again? A servant should be like furniture: always there when needed, but unseen and unacknowledged when not. Yasu is taking to that philosophy with what would be enthusiasm if enthusiasm wasn't unsightly in this case.]

["Glowing goop" and "chipped animal" seem pretty hazardous to Yasu, but also fairly interesting. She bags them up for her own use, then gets to examining the vents around the room. Yasu won't go so far as to go at them with a screwdriver, but how loose do they seem on casual inspection? Could a particularly small child (or an Adorabat) potentially fit through one?]

Er... yes. And yes.

[Yasu has gotten enough reactions like that by now to look vaguely embarrassed when Sonic expresses his incredulity; it's sinking in that employing a six year-old as a part-time maidservant may be mildly scuzzy.]

I- I mean, all of us have some kind of neat talent... I figured it was worth, um, asking, at least.

I doubt cleaning will, um, help very much with crime scene investigation, though.

SHEEP

[keyringwitness]

[Yasu feels very awkward asking about such a morbid question to innocent creatures like the Little Brothers, but it's something she'd like to know before... well, in case the worst happens.]

P- Pardon me, b- b- but, um... if... a corpse... does show up...

Are you, uh, qualified to... assess its condition? I don't, er, think we c- can do that... it'd be helpful if you could keep an eye on the scene so we d- don't have to worry about anyone... interfering with it... too...

[keyringwitness]

T- Those were- that was- mmmmph...

[Yasu looks down, face red, as she struggles to find a way to explain this without it coming across as absolutely ridiculous.]

D- Drawings of a very personal nature...

Oh! You mentioned him a few times before... he's, um, your guardian, right?

[Yasu, meanwhile, begins drawing a very enthusiastic looking little girl... with a peg leg and, as she continues to work, what look like the outlines of bat wings.]

Yep. I mean, I haven't really been trying, so I have no idea where everyone's already looked. Besides the freaky trip outside, anyway.

[At least he admits it.]

[Adorabat catches a glimpse of Yasu's drawing.]

A- according to all the textbooks I've been reading, most, um, living things share pretty much the same structure. It's just the specifics that are different... that might be more helpful than you think.

[The more you know, the more accurate an autopsy report you can get before it's inevitably updated!]

We do need whatever help we can g- get, so... it might be worth a shot, actually. You, um, said it yourself. The more people we have w- with these kinds of skills, the better.

[Yasu perks up, actually looking proud of herself for once as Adorabat recognizing herself in the gijinka Yasu is drawing. As she's sketching a few detail shots of Adorabat's clothes, she says,] That's right! This is a hobby of mine. Um, giving human forms to people who aren't really human. It's really fun.

[violence_ensues]

Cooool! I've never seen any real humans before coming here! How many humans are there where you're at?

Drawing or painting art is really fun! Art has the power to change people.

[She nods.] And you beat all of them before, right? So whoever wins we can take them in the end.

Uh...

[ They could probably squeeze everyone in a dorm, but it would be awfully cramped. And they do have to factor in the increased security. ]

How about the library? We'll pretend it's a study session and pass around notes.

[Emma nods.] It's definitely strange how that works. But at least things aren't as inconvenient as they could be.

Well... [Yasu taps her chin.] There are a couple hundred on Niijima... thousands in the Izu Archipelago... millions in Japan... and, oh, I don't know... m- maybe a billion across the whole world?

And I don't know if it can change people, but... [She smiles, looking down at the doodles she and Adorabat are making.] It makes me happy, at least.

[temmapathy]

[A silent huff, as she crosses her arms briefly.] They could use their money to fix the world! Instead they just want to escape it and leave everyone else behind.

[Emma would kick Elon Musk in the dick if she ever met him.]
