WEEK ONE

This week, students at Ira Academy must return to class with their memories of the weekend hanging over them. The Principal is watching now, and he dislikes children even more than his initial draconian idea of education led everyone to believe. The rules revision is probably at the forefront of most people’s minds, along with the sinking paranoia of being monitored much more closely and more severely reprimanded for stepping out of line. This very empty academy building suddenly feels all the more claustrophobic. All students now have the option to commit murder and be freed from this school. Less than a week ago, you were teaching yourself to be friends with some of your fellow classmates. Will things remain that way, or will someone reveal themselves to be willing to take a life to escape?

But just because murder’s on the table doesn’t mean that your studies are off of it, and the Little Brothers are still here to helpfully encourage all students to complete their coursework. Despite being shepherded away at the end of the school dance announcement last night, this week the Prefect will be back for her office hours and, thankfully, less fixated on pulling off a successful weekend spelling bee and social event. Less thankfully, it seems she believes that completing your re-education as originally planned is the correct course of action. You’d do well to remember, perhaps, that right now your success reflects ultimately on her. Students who prefer to see how their fellow school denizen and prisoner-in-spirit can also sneak into the music room whenever it’s unoccupied to converse with A.

To that end, it also looks like someone’s posted a “Tutors and Study Groups” sign-up sheet on the hallway walls outside the A/V room. There are illustrated descriptions next to it, so even someone who doesn’t understand the writing should be able to glean its purpose. This seems like a good way for people who are interested in working together or helping one another with anything involved in school life. Students may make use of this resource as they will.

Finally, at the end of the hallway near the music room, a sliding wall has receded as if it was never there in the first place, revealing an unexplored area on this floor.. Hmm, what could be up there?

This is an option for anyone who wants non-private/event convos with her, if for some reason anyone wants to spend MORE time with her. If you are looking for information about the school’s mysteries, it's highly recommended you bring in the sheep or the mod journal instead!

[Well, Dylan was planning to have a meeting today, but...a movie does sound like a good morale boost, and things aren't looking to bad at the moment, so...]

Any chance some of the popcorn is plain? I can't really have any that has butter or anything.

[ Okay, so, on the one hand, this is obviously a baby film. For babies. And so it follows that Valmont, who is by at least some estimations not a baby, should leave this type of foolishness to his classmates and go read a book or something.

...But on the other hand, like. He's never seen this one. And home video is only the barest sliver of a thing when he's from. And he did enjoy the book. And shut up. Valmont pulls up a chair in the back and tries not to enjoy himself too conspicuously. ]

Oh, no, it seems Anya likes popcorn instead.

[Jeanne crashes into her and holds her tight and Carrie's train of thought crashes like a bridge went out beneath it. She holds herself apart from people, for the most part. This is the most physical contact she's had in two years - two and a half, if they've truly been in this place six months.

So while she freezes, it's only for a moment, and then she's clinging as if for dear life.]

["Nothing" can't be held on to. "Nothing" would be insubstantial, wouldn't be warm and soft and scented with roses. They say saints smell of roses, somehow. Does that mean she's been embraced by a saint?

But then there's that undertone of... no, not metal. Blood. How? It makes no sense, but there's almost a ghost of a smell of blood. Maybe it's Shamash - do spirits like that smell like anything? It's not as though she can conjure up her famous ancestor to ask, especially not here...]

You've done nothing wrong. You're kind to everyone, you're graceful, you know how to hold a group together better than me. You're not nothing, and you're not alone.

[We can pretend that Edward reminded her of that before this conversation, somehow.

It's probably selfish, to want to stay here, trying to figure out how to be comforting aside from just holding on as much as she's being held. It's been a long while since Carrie has allowed herself to be truly selfish. Today can break that streak. Right now, Jeanne is most important, self-recrimination for selfish actions can happen later.]

You know, this is actually called an Alice headband, after the movie. There are probably more in the machine that I can show you.

[She doesn't take any popcorn. This is actually late by her standards - she's almost melting into the couch. Just extremely soft and peaceful.]

[Oh, that looks neat, actually. She waves her foot a few more times, watching her socks light up out of the corner of her eye. However, as he's explaining, she nods, taking that in.]

How fast are they?

[Well, the reflection that produces is about the size of a watermelon maybe. It's at least more concentrated light than if he'd shined the flashlight straight at the wall, but is it worth it?]

I guess it could be a good enough spotlight... [beat] ...for a frog or something.

[He sighs, but he's sure to smile at Adorabat again after that.]

Tell you what, I'll hit you up once I get something good rigged up, alright? It's definitely gonna happen!
