WEEK 2

The first week at the castle passes without any (recent) murders. Mysteries were found, questions asked, bonds formed, and Halloween celebrated. Now as Sunday 'dawns', you might feel your mind a little lighter as your first memories fade. Will this be just a week celebrating the (questionably) best thing about October or will more sinister things be afoot?

Either way, it looks like the Alices will continue their game.

That's because killing people isn't a game! Sometimes children pretend to and that's a game but it's not fun when it hurts people!

Older people do it all the time.

And that's why they get punished for doing it! Because if they're selfish and kill someone then they deserve to be caught and punished! Because it's wrong!

The soldiers and doctors never got caught. I think.

What soldiers and doctors?

The soldiers with their planes... I was with my parents when they came and I saw the smoke. I woke up in the hospital and it was worse. No adults seemed to care what they were doing.

[littlebratziska]

The doctors would have been trying to save people, or they should have been. The soldiers, though, might already have been killed by other soldiers. No war is good, but sometimes people may think they need it, or they get told to fight in a war and they don't have any choice.

That's what you've done to us though, isn't it? Because you made this a war too, kind of. Soldiers don't always want to kill each other, and if one of them likes killing too much they are arrested and tried in a court for that. War crimes are illegal too, and so war criminals are punished by the law.

I'm not... I'm not like them... I don't want to hurt people! I just want to play and play. I'm not...

Alice! You don't have to be sad. It's their fault they don't understand.

Soldiers are people who get told by other people that they have to kill each other, even if they don't want to. That means you're not like the soldiers, that means you're like the general, who makes the soldiers do all those things.

You can play games without needing anybody to die when you play them! Those games can be fun for everyone.

[twinverses]

[You can probably hear her voice going up in pitch. Her breath seemed to become heavier.]

I'm not! I... I wouldn't toy with people. I wouldn't keep them alive if they didn't to be! I'm not like that. I'm not, I'm not, I'm not! I would never, never...

Alice! Alice, it's okay, I'd never let that happen to anyone here, too! Calm down!

[At least, it seems, the Cat's focus is solely on the other Alice instead of berating Franziska for getting her into this state.]

You are, but you don't have to be. Nobody here wants to have to kill other people. You can change the rules and keep more people from having to die, or kill other people!

[She seems to have a greater problem with people killing people than with people dying which is... strange, but noted.]

[You get your perspectives skewed when you're a ghost. It happens.

Still, the Queen seems set in whatever memories she has.]

You can always choose to be better.

[But she can hear slight sounds of movement behind the door, and finally after waiting several moments for a response she turns away, and looks back at Ib's small body, in the middle of the hall. The red of her dress looks lurid against the black and white of the room, and makes the paper and plastic Halloween decorations look very tawdry.

She'll just have to... keep trying later. There has to be a way to get Alice to send them home, since nothing they've found thus far has provided another way.]

[So, Dark Dream isn't staring at the dead girl anymore. Her attention's been on the living girl for the past couple of minutes.]

Did you mean all that?

What you said. About soldiers, and nobody wanting to kill people, and choosing to be better.

I never say anything I don't mean. You should always strive to be better than you were before anyway, so that makes it easy.

So you keep improving every day...

[She's heard that before, hasn't she?]

All right. I'll be sure to get better, too.

That is the only logical way to do it, don't you agree?

I guess. I've never really improved much.

There is always time to begin.
