WEEK 2

The first week at the castle passes without any (recent) murders. Mysteries were found, questions asked, bonds formed, and Halloween celebrated. Now as Sunday 'dawns', you might feel your mind a little lighter as your first memories fade. Will this be just a week celebrating the (questionably) best thing about October or will more sinister things be afoot?

Either way, it looks like the Alices will continue their game.

[Amdi's been pretty scarce since Sunday. He got two tape measures from Manaka on Monday, and on Tuesday he only appeared for the Alices' announcement and then went straight back to his room without saying a word. But as of Wednesday morning he is out and about and... surveying?]

[Well most notable at first glance is probably the fact that, for the first time since he arrived, he is wearing clothes. All eight of him have on very practical-looking leather jackets that are covered in pockets and conveniently paw-sized climbing loops. Between him he's packing both 2-meter tape measures, several sheaves of note paper, a whole mess of pens and pencils, and a 10-meter coil of "rope" (clearly made by ripping up and braiding his own bedsheets) which itself has accurately sharpied meter marks along its entire length.]

[And what is he doing with all this kit? Simple: he is measuring every room in the castle, down to the last centimeter. And between his ability to string his members out in a long line and climb on himself in a three-deep pyramid, he is doing a damn good job of it.]

[Want to help? Gawk? Ask what the hell even? If you are in literally any currently-accessible-to-him area inside of the castle he will be there at some point today.]

The dogs... are weird. He's making a pyramid out of himself. What the fuck. She's distracted from her Zoobooks because honestly.]

[A couple of Amdi who aren't part of the whole pyramid operation look over towards her, mouths full of bedsheet-rope, though of course that doesn't affect his "voice".]

[she doesn’t know. Maybe it’s going to lead to something useful, maybe it’s just a thing dog hiveminds do.]

Find anything unusual? [Cori's genre-savvy enough to figure she knows why he might be measuring stuff, at least.]

[Currently Amdi is (literally) strung out along one wall holding up the long "rope", so it takes him an extra fraction of a second to turn one head towards her and another to actually talk. It takes a skosh for his thoughts to propagate all up and down himself at this range.]

Hey, Cori. Nothing really weird so far, but I haven't gotten to the media room yet.

[Puppy rope...cute.] Oh. So no secret rooms, so far?

[Considering Amdi is literally eight dogs he's been surprisingly scarce -- you'd think eight of these guys, however small, would be hard to miss but the castle is large and their group is almost as large as most classes in school and ranging twice as far somehow even when all stuck to the same floor.

So when she finally catches a glimpse of Many Snouts sometime midweek Niko breaks into a smile and shuffles over to check out what they're doing. There's a blink at the mess of supplies; who knew eight dogs could get into so much stuff and essentially set up their own team? Nice. A small frown at the bit of rope, but...]

Oh... I guess Amdi-wan wouldn't use the room the same way as the rest of us, kind of like-- [kind of like Simba, but also Simba is Probably A Dead Cat or a Schrodinger's Cat so maybe that's inauspicious] But if you needed extra sheets, you probably could have gotten them pretty easily...?

[Maybe he's using bonus sheets, though, who knows. It's just an aside as she peers at the measuring going on.]

[One of Amdi turns from his measure-the-widths-of-every-bedroom-door-frame operation.]

Oh, hi Niko. [Amdi sounds pleased to see her, but definitely not as chipper as he has before.]

[He seems a little confused at the first half of her question, but then she mentions the sheets and he looks at his coil of "rope".]

Oh. Nah, the castle is actually a little warmer than I'm used to back home, so I wasn't really using them.

But yeah, I'm trying to measure the whole interior volume. See?

[One of him finishes writing down the jamb-to-jamb distance in millimeters and the other one holding the clipboard in its mouth turns to show her. Incidentally, the "clipboard" is the ripped-off back cover of a textbook with a couple of bobby pins shoved onto it to hold the paper down.]

[Enough coins have come out of the vending machine that Mizuki has decided to make an afternoon of it, doing wall sits as she gets one piece of stuff at a time. By the end of it, she's set up straw in the treasure chest of chocolate dubloons, to provide attractive display cushioning for the sugar ruby, jar of pickles, and loaf of bread. The old stick leans against the flamingo, which has a Santa hat on its head and a medal draped around its neck catching the light. The ball is on the floor near the base of this. The medical textbook occupies a table next to measuring tape and stamps. A chair hosts the guitar. The lion statue is used to pin down the balloons; Mizuki glances at these shiftily while she clips her nails.]

[For sector friends, Cori and Seven and Dark Dream and Veronica, Mizuki is setting up the promised. She's picked out five board games fairly similar to the ones loaded into the GameChild... which she takes out of her coat pocket and places proudly on top of the TV like a mantelpiece.]

So, I thought about how a lot of board games are actually for four people, but there's five of us, and that gave me an idea. We can take turns having an odd one out keep score, and then who has the most points after all that gets the prize. Since I'm the leader, I'll be scorekeeper first. Does that sound fun? [Her feet tap. She is not taking acceptance for granted.]

Really fun!! [He sat crisscross on the floor, rocking a little bit. It was like his worries seemed to dissipate.]

[Amdi has spent the entire morning of his Great Measuring Operation taking notes either by putting his sheets of paper on the ground or laying them carefully across the back of one of his members, and frankly it's a little annoying. He really wishes he had one of those cool clipboards the whitejackets used back home.]

[Then he walks by Mizuki and her pile of things... and a metaphorical lightbulb goes off over his heads.]

Umm... um, hi Mizuki! [He's trying to sound casual but several of him are clearly eyeing the medical textbook on the table.]

Hi, Amdi! [She's picked up the nickname in the meetings, been relieved that Nigel's taking him under his wing. There's enough of him that Mizuki can pick one set of eyes to look at while keeping the balloons in line of sight. She puts the clippers away in her lap.]

I'm just hanging out. What's up?

I'm measuring the whole castle. [Amdi stop just saying that like it is a normal-ass thing to do.]

Can I have your book?

[Dark Dream is dressed more normally than usual today! Which isn't saying much, she still stands out, but at least now she stands out because she's in a silly cheap princess costume and not because she's in an evil magical girl outfit.

It's a lot easier to move around in than it looks, so she doesn't have any trouble when she goes out to the garden. It's a nice open space to run around, jump, try to climb the tree... generally she just had to get out and do something physical, so that's what she's doing. In practice, though, she spends just as much time sitting down to rest and look at the butterflies.

Later, though, she has work to do. She's carrying the Alice bookmark around and trying out different doors, which finally brings her to room 29.]

... Okay, uh, you are wearing shoes right?]

[Dark Dream stepped on broken plastic on the first day of course she is wearing shoes.]
