WEEK 2

[whimsicalism]

The first week at the castle passes without any (recent) murders. Mysteries were found, questions asked, bonds formed, and Halloween celebrated. Now as Sunday 'dawns', you might feel your mind a little lighter as your first memories fade. Will this be just a week celebrating the (questionably) best thing about October or will more sinister things be afoot?

Either way, it looks like the Alices will continue their game.

[He slightly raises his brows seeing him by himself, but... well, he's not going to question it yet. It might be easier to talk to them one on one. The brief hesitation passing, he answers with a shrug.]

Normally that's true for me too... which is exactly why I don't want to get rusty. Friendly here means we stop before someone gets injured.

Boooring. [ Ear flick. ] What kinda battle are you talking about anyway?

[There is a pained glance to the side as Nigel is basically thinking it's boring too when he says that. But like, he's trying to get out excess energy so he DOESN'T straight up break someone's nose. He blinks and resumes eye contact at the question.]

Huh? I mean a fight, hand to hand or possibly with weapons.

[Seems obvious to him since he's standing out here doing target practice, but who knows what other kinds are out there in catmanland.]

What kind are you talking about?

What kinda weapons do you have? [ Peering around, it takes him a second or two to redirect his attention back. ]

Wordspell, but it doesn't work here. And I'd need to get Youji, even if you were flying solo. We're not the generous type~.

Couple of ranged weapons - my S.C.A.M.P.P., a slingshot. I've got an axe in my room, but I wouldn't want to use it unless my opponent had a similar weapon.

[The S.C.A.M.P.P. looks very homemade, primarily out of a flashlight and a bottle, but if he's been out here the whole time he would have at least seen it was actually shooting a green laser at his targets.]

Wordspell... I assume you don't just have a spelling bee against your opponents.

I've never seen anyone use an axe before!

[ He's probably on board with this. The S.C.A.M.P.P. is something but Natsuo is more a fan of blades when it comes down to it. ]

Not that spell, spell as in magic or sorcery. But Aless is a scaredy-cat who won't fight us properly!

No? Well, Kids Next Door operatives are trained to use a wide variety of items in combat. I'd be game.

[SURELY THERE WOULD NOT BE AN UNFORTUNATE ACCIDENT HERE. BECAUSE THIS IS BACKTAGLAND.]

Aless who? ...For the record, I'd have assumed it was sorcery from the start if it wasn't for the 'word' part.

[KND villains mostly use tech but sometimes a dude busts out of nowhere with an ancient magical ritual. You learn to accept these things.]

[ It'd be nice if he had his pocketwatch, but alas. And ofc not, no conspicuous injuries here. ]

Y'know, Aless. [ Stretching the word out so it sounds closer to Alice. ] The "word" is the most important part, though.

Well then, let's have a go same time next week. I'll get some practice in myself.

[As for Aless, he gets it now. He can appreciate a good name-based insult, so it gets a grin out of him]

Next week? Fiiiiine. But don't forget! [ Really the only reason he's okay with this is because he doesn't have a proper blade yet. Maybe that'll change by then! It won't bc his player continues to sit on a coin mountain. ]

Our words bend reality, so being specific is important. You can say something like "dissolve" but dissolve what? If you don't specify it could be anything from a soggy newspaper to skin!

I wouldn't set up a challenge just to run from it. I'll be right here.

[It gives him some time to get a feel for the axe since he'd mostly ignored it. He wants to give it his best after all!]

So it's an ability that's unpredictable, yet powerful once you master it. Are there limits to that?
