WEEK 2

[whimsicalism]

The first week at the castle passes without any (recent) murders. Mysteries were found, questions asked, bonds formed, and Halloween celebrated. Now as Sunday 'dawns', you might feel your mind a little lighter as your first memories fade. Will this be just a week celebrating the (questionably) best thing about October or will more sinister things be afoot?

Either way, it looks like the Alices will continue their game.

[ ah yes, the BEST other character in the castle ]

That metal that keeps on showing up on the bugsquatch. You know, just in case anyone didn't realize that's not a real thing.

[octopups]

[One of him keeps watching the movie while the other cocks its head in innocent confusion.]

Why does a "zipper" mean it's not real?

[I'm so sorry Lena he knows about medieval castles and he knows about spaceships he does not know like, normal people things.]

Oh boy. So you get the general idea of what a costume is, right? That's just a dude in a big costume.

[octopups]

It's a costume??

[The one of Amdi with her that's watching the movie and a couple others sneak up with heads low to peer closer at the screen without getting in the way too much. The other one stays and keeps talking without looking away from Lena.]

Oh, it is! I thought he was an actor in makeup. He looks a little like how Ravna described her old boss on Relay. [He is talking about a literal alien that his friend used to know. Amdi plz not everyone is from fucking outer space.]

Right. Aliens.

So, yeah, pretty much anyone who doesn't look human is just a human in a costume. [ or cgi but let's not get into it ] Which is kind of boring, right? At least back home you don't know what kind of animal's in the suit.

[octopups]

[He takes a long second to think about that. Sorry Lena his brain is quite literally all over the place.]

Oh, right, I guess these movies are all made in worlds that most of the other kids are from, huh? With, like, just humans.

[He settles back down into watching the goo-fest, one of him laying head on paws sleepily, when, another looong second later:]

... Wait, animals??

[undershadow]

Yeah, you know, like how I'm a duck and nobody can shut up about it?

[octopups]

Uhh... I'm not sure what a "duck" is, but... you're not an animal, you're a person!

[undershadow]

Well, yeah, you can be both.

[octopups]

I... I guess...?

[ She blinks, her attention finally going fully to Amdi and leaving the screen. ]

... Alright, so before we keep going down this road, which one are you?

[octopups]

[He does a halfhearted little stompy-paws.]

I'm a person! A Tine! I know we Tines kind of look like some animal humans have called "dogs", but we're totally different!

[undershadow]

So an animal is just... anything that can't talk.

[octopups]

Yeah! I mean... pretty much!

[Setting aside the fact that from time-out-of-mind up until one (1) year ago, his whole race figured that "animal" just meant creatures who couldn't form coherent Packs (i.e. everything that was not a Tine) because who the heck would even conceive of a singleton that could be a whole person all by itself, that's just crazy talk. Then humans landed and w h o o p s. Tbf though Amdi himself was a big early proponent of "humans are smart and cool let's be friends with the space people."]
