WEEK 3

All three deaths last were tragic in their own ways. Was trust so fragile in that castle that a simple misunderstanding could end in blood? It seemed to be the case. The trial proved that without a doubt. Surely no one else would make that mistake again. As another week begins the tea cup elevator has granted access to a new area. Maybe the new amusements of a festival will ease your wounded hearts?

[ So sometime in the day, Gil could be seen strolling around the castle. If your room door's open, guess what? He'll be peering his head in and giving a wave. ]

Hey, what're you up to?

[ Later on, he could be caught over at the arcade, this time playing some games. Do you dare challenge him? ]

Oh, Gil.

[He's got the unclaimed contents of old yard sales scattered about on his desk.]

I'm examining the properties of these items to see if any can be repurposed into new 2x4 technology. It's not exactly my forte, but my arsenal seems so lacking...

[The golden cellphone glimmers on the table. Better grab it before it gets turned into a horrible experiment, in other words]

[ He'll hurry over to the table to snatch up his cellphone in a jiffy because NO!! ]

This is mine, so leave it out of your repurposing technological things, alright? I don't even know how the process goes but I'd like my cellphone in one piece, and in its original state...

It's yours!? [He blinks.] ....In my defense, I had this for a while, I didn't think anyone was gonna claim it by this point.

[But given his desire to have it in one piece, he thinks better of telling him he was using it earlier to taunt a land shark in the foyer. Or showing him the blueprint for whatever weaponized monstrosity he was going to make out of it - it's useless anyway now, so he'll just crumple it in a ball.]

It's a pity, but I've no reason to keep it from you.

It's alright, it's not like it had my name written on it either.

[ He'll blame the Alices for that, since Nigel didn't tell him about LAND SHARK ESCAPADES, god... ]

Well, I'm grateful you didn't fight me over it, so I'll remember that.

...What is 2x4 technology supposed to be, anyway?

Sure, sure. It's not like that was the only idea I had up my sleeve, I'll just make do here.

[When he asks the question, Nigel picks up the S.C.A.M.P.P. leaning against the desk on the floor.]

2x4 Technology refers to any of the inventions made by the Kids Next Door. A lot of them use 2x4 planks [pointing at the wood on the bottom of the gun] but not all of them. They can be weapons, gadgets, or vehicles like our aircraft and super robots... A 2x4 Tech Officer can make those out of just about anything. That isn't my role on the team, but I still know a few basics of their construction.

[ He'll glance at the thing Nigel just picked up... ]

Mm, it's useful to have people in an organization that's inventive AND resourceful.

Say, why was Kids Next Door created, anyway?

[ Lena looks up from her journal, which she's scribbling in while perched at the foot of her bed. ]

Oh, y'know, just desperately trying to combat the relentless erosion of our memories by writing a bunch of stuff. You?

Just peeking around, seeing what everyone else is up to.

[ There's a little skip in his step as he entered the room properly. ]

It looks like you're making good progress. Picking out your favorites first?

[ She closes the journal once Gil comes in in earnest, because that's just polite and also just vigilant! The scene in her window is of a ruined seaside amphitheater, though the color palette is definitely more sunset-y. ]

Oh, that got done a while back. ... and then we actually started losing memories and I didn't have enough to fill in the gaps, so, yes. Gotta elaborate some more when it comes to the stuff I want to remember.

[ His attention was on the sunset more than anything when he stepped in but then eventually he'll look at the duck again. ]>/small>

That makes sense. It looks like everyone else has the same idea at least.

Maybe if we're lucky a bad memory will get taken away instead of a good one next.

Maybe. [ Though this is not spoken in the tone of someone who's saying "maybe" because they actually believe the events described might come to pass. ] I mean, the odds are in their favor.

[Allen comes poking around here eventually, blinking at all the bright lights and sounds.]

[ Game noise sounds ensue as he's having a time of it on one of the machines. Probably a platformer. ]

Did you want to play some games with me?

I don't think I've ever played games like this before, actually.

Really? You haven't lived yet.

Don't worry, I'll teach you how to enjoy one of the few joys in life.

[ He'll point to a few buttons. ]

You use 'this' button [ point ] to jump and then this one [ point!! ] to run, oh and this one [ point ] to shoot things.

Seems simple, right?

In this case, yes.

Don't worry you'll probably die a few times but eventually you'll get better.

You really have a whole hell of a lot of time on your hands, don't you? Well, I suppose the same goes for all of us.

[It's really not like Niko has any room to talk: the arcade certainly sees a decent amount of use, and it's not like they spend a whole lot of time with the night sky otherwise. More or less. She's currently hogging what looks like one of the arcade fighters.

Maybe she got a taste for it when she got her hands on the PSP, maybe she just felt like being retro. Who knows? What game is Gil up to?]

The real question, then, is are you any good?

Yeah, we're all in the same boat here.

[ So... yep. Time waster was a go; at the very least he was having some modicrum of fun that didn't involve a dumb Servant and her cat.

It's a platformer involving a ship shooting asteroids and aliens because why not. ]

Mm...is that a challenge? After this you can have a go and try desperately to beat my high score, okay?
