WEEK 3

All three deaths last were tragic in their own ways. Was trust so fragile in that castle that a simple misunderstanding could end in blood? It seemed to be the case. The trial proved that without a doubt. Surely no one else would make that mistake again. As another week begins the tea cup elevator has granted access to a new area. Maybe the new amusements of a festival will ease your wounded hearts?

[Franziska's first try at the vending machines had given her a very poison apple, currently safely hidden, but that alone had scared her off the vending machine for a little over a week. Still, she had a sizable heap of coins by this point, and so far there certainly hadn't been anything else produced to do with them, so she finally decided to go and try her luck. If nothing else, any other weapons she did get would doubtless be better in her hands, where they could be protected, then they would be potentially with someone else, who might be tempted to use them.

Besides, she'd seen what the others had gotten from the machine, and it was varied, but not much seemed to be dangerous.

A handful of minutes later saw her standing in front of the vending machine surrounded by a reasonably sized pile of junk]

What on earth is all of this?

[At least the nail clippers were potentially useful? A live butterfly had knocked over several items in a display of herculean butterfly strength, apparently for spite, before landing out of reach.

Anybody interested in what she got? Or just interested in the spectacle of this many pulls.]

You're not going to eat that? [He had been eyeing both of the burger meals with hungry eyes. Even with the dining hall, he needed that cheap fast food fix that every person has at some point in the week.]

I, ah, if you think it's safe.

[Probably it should be, she guesses.]

I'm certainly not going to eat them.

[Ohoho, then gladly he will take them!]

Thank you! [They were a bit small, but... no skin off his nose.] I don't have much to give myself, but here. [He gave her one of the two cat masks the vending machine gave him.]

[Oh! On sheer impulse she promptly puts one on, and blinks up at him through the eye holes.]

Well, at I guess that's something to trade for them, anyway.

Oh yes! [He was glad she was pleased with his gift!!]

[She smiles at that, both the mask and his reaction; perhaps she almost grins.

As horrible as this place can be, maybe it's not wholly worse than it is at home.]

I will, thank you!! [He felt... whole, for the first time since last week.]

[Just. Staring at the butterfly in confusion??]

It... came out. I'm not sure, maybe the machine is broken? But more things came out after it flew out....

...There's been a lot of weird stuff in there, too.

Maybe it's a magic butterfly?

It... it knocked some things over. I think it must be.

[Standing up the can of pancake drink a little gingerly.]

I wonder if it's the same one from my world...

[Hm. But he doesn't know the first thing about catching butterflies, so he'll leave it be.]

Did you have a butterfly like that in your world too, then?

[Amdi had become fascinated by the vending machine and its endless weird items, if for no other reason than that SO MANY of them are things that he has never seen in his life but that other people seem to think are normal.]

[So somewhere near the end of her pullfest he is going to come up and marvel at all the things!]

Wowwww.... [Said as he stares at... the sneakers.]

Do you... want something?

[she does not think those sneakers will fit you hon]

[A couple of him look up at her hopefully.]

Can I?? Um... which things do you not want?

I don't think I'll have use for most of this! What is it you want?

U-um, um...!!

[ALL OF YOUR THINGS ARE SO COOL FRANZIKSA WHY U PUT HIM ON THE SPOT LIKE DIS]

Um, what's this one? [Points a nose at the slingshot]

[... OH uh]

That's... it's a weapon, I guess. But I don't think you'd be able to kill anyone with it, so... you can have it, if you want.

[undershadow]

... so, uh. Been sitting on the tokens for a while, huh.

[littlebratziska]

I... didn't like the first thing I got very much, so I didn't use any more, but it started to seem a little pointless to just have them all in my room. Not that I'm sure most of this is any better - at least the coins didn't take up much room.

[But they did still feel incomplete in there, so oh well.]

Yeah, I think I know what you mean. Literally the first thing I got out of here was a knife.

[ It's possible Franziska isn't talking about getting something that could be used as a weapon, but she wouldn't bet on it! ]

Kept me away from here for, uh, a week? But the siren song of room temperature burgers was just too much to withstand.

I... I got a poison apple. I made sure it was safe, but I didn't really want more like it...

But then I decided that if there's a finite number of weapons in here, maybe I should try to get more, so no one else will... will be able to use them. I can lock them up, at least.

[She looks over her pile of junk.]

Not that it worked. I didn't get much that looks like a weapon. Maybe that means the machine is out, or maybe not. I wish we had more information.

Doubt it. [ Her voice doesn't have any of the same pat snappiness it did when she was, say, talking to Franziska after they first woke up. ] Maybe they knew what you were going for and made sure it gave you the opposite, but I think it's probably just random. Funny how it always works out in the least convenient way, huh?
